Stormchaser reared on her hind legs and yowled at the bear. "Get back," she demanded with her haunches rippling as she lowered into a battle crouch. "And never come back."
The bear roared and more of the white froth splattered onto the ground. Thunderheart pushed against her mate and urged her backwards. "We can't defeat a rabid bear," he argued as the spikes on his back stood on end. "It's too dangerous."
"Then what do you suggest we do," wondered Stormchaser as she looked to her mate with round and terrified eyes.
Thunderheart looked to the bear who's eyes were unfocused and wild. "Run," he answered as he took to the air. Stormchaser followed him and they sped through the air, hoping that Russet Feather was traveling well with Lightningflash by the ground.
They flew upward but something like a ghost pushed forward toward Thunderheart. The mass met Thunderheart head on and Stormchaser gasped as she saw Iceshard tackling at Thunderheart. Iceshard sunk her teeth into Thunderheart's neck and blood gushed out.
"Leave him alone," snapped Stormchaser as she pummeled her claws against Iceshard's shoulders. Iceshard let go of Thunderheart before turning to Stormchaser. He launched himself at Stormchaser and Stormchaser gasped a bit in pain and felt blood oozing down her body.
Thunderheart let out a bellowing howl and leaped at Iceshard and pried him off of his mate. Iceshard's body exploded in rage and he clawed a hole into Thunderheart's wing. Thunderheart cried in shock as he plummeted from the sky with Iceshard still clawing at him. Stormchaser gasped in absolute terror and dove down, her wings pressed against her body. She wanted to get down before her mate did to break his fall.
However she didn't get there fast enough. Thunderheart gasped as his back collided with the ground. His whole body seemed to convulse as Iceshard continued tearing at his limbs. Stormchaser landed between Thunderheart and Iceshard. "Don't you dare go near him," threatened Stormchaser. "Haven't we fought enough? There has been enough bloodshed!"
Iceshard snickered. "There will never be enough bloodshed," he spat before he leaped for Stormchaser. The two rolled and Stormchaser spat plasma at him. He dodged it before he pressed his two front paws against her throat, trying to choke her. She rolled on her paws again and reared up before smacking her head against his. He rolled over but he pushed back to his paws and shook his head to clear it.
Stormchaser bounded to her own paws and fanned out her tail and her wings. She reared upward again and lashed her front paws against Iceshard's neck. She swore she heard it snap but Iceshard came back stronger and plowed back into her. He brought her to the ground and sunk his claws into her shoulders so deeply that Stormchaser felt him graze bone.
Stormchaser let out a wail but that only fueled Iceshard's hatred. He wrapped his teeth around Stormchaser's neck and his hot breath made Stormchaser's nose curl in disgust. "I've waited for this moment for a long time Stormchaser."
Before he could sink his teeth the rest of the way through Thunderheart shot out his tail and wrapped it around Iceshard's leg and pulled. He fell on his side and Thunderheart looked to his mate with protectiveness glowing in his eyes.
"You're going to have to wait a little longer," muttered Thunderheart as he rose to his shaky paws and limped over to Stormchaser and pressed against her.
"What are you doing," asked Stormchaser as she watched Thunderheart's weak body.
"I'm protecting you," he answered with gentle and affectionate eyes. "It's what Darkflight would do."
Stormchaser couldn't argue that but she couldn't help but want him to run and get away from Iceshard. He was unpredictable and she knew that he wouldn't stop until every other Night Fury was dead.
