Russet Feather and Stormchaser padded through the forest. Stormchaser heard a jackdaw cry out and she blinked her eyes a bit. "So were you and your sister close?"
"Very," growled Russet Feather but she didn't turn to look at Stormchaser. "She was my best friend and when I find the dragon that killed her I will kill him!"
Stormchaser frowned and nodded. "I am terribly sorry for your loss," she murmured gently, not wanting to make Russet Feather and more angry at her.
Russet Feather turned around, tears showing in her eyes. Stormchaser was a bit taken back and she felt a sob rise in her own throat. "I loved her like a best friend," she cried out in agony. "Now she was taken away from me!"
"I'm so sorry," breathed Stormchaser as she lowered her head in her shoulders a bit before lowering down.
Tears streamed down from Russet Feather's eyes. She lowered down and whimpered in grief. "Do you even know how this feels? To lose someone that you care about so much?"
Stormchaser lowered down and stretched out her tail so that it circled Russet Feather. "Actually I do. I lost my father when I was very young." At the mention of her father tears began to show in Stormchaser's eyes.
"Do you ever get over it," asked Russet Feather as her tail curled a bit under her.
Stormchaser shook her head. "It's not about getting over it. It's about learning how to deal with the loss," explained Stormchaser gently. "It will take a long time but eventually you'll get used to it."
Russet Feather still didn't look persuaded but she gave a small nod as she gazed into Stormchaser's eyes. Suddenly Russet Feather heard a growl and it certainly wasn't of a wolf.
Another Night Fury leaped from the bushes. It bared it's teeth at Russet Feather and Russet Feather leaped to her paws, in terror. "Stormchaser!"
Stormchaser rose to her paws and faced the Night Fury, realizing it was her brother. "Darkflight," she breathed in shock. "What are you doing here?"
Darkflight padded forward and pressed against Stormchaser affectionately. "I'm making sure that those mutts don't hurt you."
"Mutts," echoed Russet Feather as she shoved her ears forward. "Do you really think that we could hurt her?"
"You could gang up on her," pointed out Darkflight as he narrowed his eyes at Russet Feather. "You can't trust wolves."
Russet Feather's jaw dropped. "Well I-"
Suddenly a screech sounded and something soared overhead. Stormchaser and Darkflight's eyes widened in shock while Russet Feather lowered to the ground. "Another Night Fury," she cried as she let out a howl. "That must be the one that killed Smolder Moon!"
"Another Night Fury," echoed Stormchaser as she looked at Darkflight. "I thought there weren't anymore."
The Night Fury suddenly landed and bared it's teeth at the group. "That's another thing you don't know about Night Furies," he snarled in rage. "They are bred to kill!"
"Run," cried Darkflight as he surged forward with his sister following. Russet Feather was right behind but she wasn't as fast a Night fury. She ended up tripping over her own paws and landing on her back.
"I enjoy the taste of a wolf," breathed the Night Fury with saliva dripping from his fangs. He sunk his teeth into Russet Feather's back and began to shake her madly, blood flying in the air.
Stormchaser skidded to a halt and looked at her friend. "I have to help her," she gasped before she turned to charge forward. Before she could Darkflight sunk his teeth into her tail and pulled her back. "What are you doing?!"
