The sun shown on a nice summer's day. The clouds were puffy and white, no sign of rain to be found. It was about noon and in the forest's of Berk everything seemed quiet.

However in the forest in a large den a large black Nightfury paced madly. It's eyes were sharp and kept glancing around. It then let out a growl of despair since no one had flown to the entrance of it's den yet, as it had happened.

Suddenly a shadowed figure landed and the Nightfury brightened. However it immediately fell back into despair when it wasn't the dragon it had been hoping for.

"Swiftstream," called the dragon at the entrance of the den. There stood a large Stormcutter with four wings and an owl-like face. Her eyes were bright yellow and intelligent where talon like claws attached to her feet.

Swiftstream turned her head and dipped her head. "Oh it's just you Skypacer," she murmured sadly. "I was sort of expecting Deathwhisper."

Skypacer strode in with her tail lashing from side to side behind her. "I know." She then looked past Swiftstream to two small eggs. Her eyes softened. "Do you think he'll be here in time?"

Swiftstream pushed past Skypacer and looked at her eggs with regret. "I can only hope but I'm not sure." She then lowered down and nudged her eggs a bit affectionately.

Skypacer watched her in empathy. She had lost her mate and didn't want Swiftstream to go through the same thing that she had. "Well I'll be here," offered Skypacer but when she saw Swiftstream's expression she knew that it didn't make her feel any better. "But I'm sure he'll be here, soon."

Before Swiftstream could say anything one of the eggs cracked. She gasped and leaped over them, pressing against Skypacer. "They're coming!"

The one egg began to move madly. Cracks traveled down the shell and Swiftstream and Skypacer held their breath. A tiny head poked out. The dragon opened it's eyes and let out a squeak. It then turned and flopped over, shattering the rest of the shell. It then flopped onto it's back and it's legs churned the air as it struggled to get up.

Swiftstream stretched out a leg and helped the small dragon to it's feet. Her eyes lit in affection. "It's a male. A healthy little male."

However Skypacer was concerned for the other egg. It hadn't shown any signs of hatching yet. She stretched out one of her four wings and nudged it, accidentally making it fall over. Just then a leg kicked against the shell. Skypacer leaped back and blinked at the egg. It began to shudder all over before cracks started to show on the shell.

"It's hatching too," cried Skypacer as she looked to her friend. "Look!"

Swiftstream looked at the egg before another small dragon popped out. It cried as the egg broke and it fell on the harsh ground. Swiftstream stretched out her neck and picked up the dragon before setting it down beside it's brother. "A female."

"One male and a female," breathed Skypacer as she shook her body. "Congratulations."

Swiftstream dipped her head before turning to her two newborn dragons. They were lively, especially for just being born. The male pawed at his sister's face before she reacted back and nibbled playfully on his wing.

Swiftstream chuckled. "They will make fine Nightfuries."

"Yes they will," agreed Skypacer. "With your and Deathwhisper's blood. They'll be invincible!"

"I'm not sure about that," chided Swiftstream as she watched her two lovely offspring pounce and battle each other playfully. She remembered playing like that with her siblings. "You know that Nightfuries are getting rarer and rarer."
