Russet Feather continued forward until she felt her legs wouldn't carry her anymore. She collapsed and dropped Lightningflash. Lightningflash skidded a bit before she turned her head and looked to Russet Feather. Her eyes were misty and confused.
"What happened," mumbled Lightningflash as she rubbed at her head a bit. Russet Feather saw a small stream of blood coming from the back of her head and rushed to clean it.
"You don't remember," mumbled Russet Feather between rapid licks over Lightningflash's head.
Lightningflash pawed at her eyes a bit. "N-No, not really." She turned to look at Russet Feather. "Are you my mother?"
Claws seemed to grab Russet Feather's chest and she wished it wasn't this hard. She wanted to tell Lightningflash what had happened to her mother but she couldn't now. She just gulped a bit. "No I'm not your mother but I can take you to her if you'd like."
Lightningflash nodded vigorously. "Yes please!"
Russet Feather chuckled a bit. "Alright follow me and keep your head down. We don't want to be spotted by any other animals, okay?"
Lightningflash nodded and kept close to Russet Feather's side. She just hoped this was a good decision.

Russet Feather scented wolf scent and looked to Lightingflash who was tired from the travel. "I need you to stay next to me and don't say anything."
Lightningflash gave a nod and Russet Feather pushed into the camp. She looked around and saw wolves about, shocked that she was there.
"What are you doing here," asked Pebble Skip as he narrowed his eyes a bit.
Russet Feather waved her tail and motioned to Lightningflash. "I'm here to take her to see her mother," she answered as she motioned for Wolverine Claws who just appeared from his den. He tilted his head but he came down, his long claws clicking against the ground.
"What are you doing here, Russet Feather," he asked as his tone sounded more like a growl than anything else.
Russet Feather looked down to Lightningflash and murmured something that Lightningflash couldn't understand. Wolverine Claws sighed before nodding. "Alright, follow me."
He padded past the wolves who glared at Lightningflash with hostility in their eyes. He pushed into the nursery and Russet Feather saw Misty Meadow curled around two balls of fur. One was just like her mother, silver with black marks for Wolverine Claws. The other one was dark brown almost like Wind Racer with white paws.
"Wolverine Claws," murmured Misty Meadow weakly. "What are you doing here?"
Wolverine Claws motioned to Lightingflash and Russet Feather. "Stormchaser and Thunderheart are dead," explained Russet Feather as she hung her head. "Now I need someone to look after Lightingflash."
Wolverine Claws looked to Lightingflash who had fallen asleep against Russet Feather's leg. "She doesn't remember much of before and I told her that she'd find her mother here."
"Won't you be a bit confused at why a wolf is raising a dragon," wondered Misty Meadow as she tilted her head in confusion.
Russet Feather shook her head. "She'll figure it out eventually but for now she needs to know that someone cares about her and this is the best place." Wolverine Claws looked at his paws and Russet Feather took a step toward him, jolting Lightingflash awake. "Please Wolverine Claws."
Wolverine Claws nodded and motioned to Misty Meadow. "We will take her in as our own, if that's alright with Misty Meadow."
Misty Meadow smiled and allowed for space for Lightningflash in her nest. Russet Feather picked up Lightningflash by the scruff of her neck and sat her down beside Misty Meadow. "Are you my mother," asked Lightingflash.
Misty Meadow nodded. "Yes little one. I'm sorry you don't remember. Just lay down and I'll fill you in on the morning." Lightningflash curled up beside Misty Meadow and the other two pups. Once Lightningflash drifted off Misty Meadow looked to Russet Feather and Wolverine Claws. "I'll watch over her, don't worry."
Russet Feather murmured thankfully before padding out of the den with Wolverine Claws at her side. "So what happened," asked Wolverine Claws as his gaze met hers.
Russet Feather shuffled her paws. "We were attacked by Iceshard. He killed Thunderheart and Stormchaser. I escaped with Lightningflash. I knew that she needed protection that I couldn't give her so I brought her here." She gulped as she looked around. "If the pack does't want me here I'll leave but-"
"What about Wind Racer," interrupted Wolverine Claws as his ears twitched.
"He's dead," confessed Russet Feather as she recalled her most trusted friend's last breath. "He died from blood-cough."
Wolverine Claws looked like someone had just raked their claws against his cheek. He took in a raspy breath and looked to the wolves romping around. "I don't want you to leave. Lightningflash will stay here and I will treat her as my daughter just as Misty Meadow will."
Russet Feather dipped her head. "I can't thank you enough Wolverine Claws! If you don't mind me asking what are your pups's names?"
Wolverine Claws smiled broadly. "The she-wolf is Silver Snow and the tom is Dust Cloud. They'll grow up knowing that Lightningflash is their littermate and I promise they won't treat her any differently."
"Thank you," barked Russet Feather as she wagged her tail. "This means a lot to me."
Wolverine Claws dipped his head a bit to her before he heard Badger Mask give a howl. He let out a steady breath. "I'll have to address the pack though and tell them what I've decided," he confessed as he met eyes with Russet Feather.
Russet Feather puffed out her chest. "You'll fight for her, won't you?"
"More than anything," assured Wolverine Claws before be bounded toward the rock in the middle of the clearing to call the wolves around.
Russet Feather looked to the nursery. "You're destined for great things, Lightingflash. One day I'm sure you'll bring dragons and wolves together. You won't let your parents die in vain."
She turned her head back to the pack and heard Wolverine Claws's gathering call. It was time for a new chapter in everyone's lives.
