Choi Hyun Suk

Although the whole walk going home was loud and filled with complains; I was glad she was back. Glad that she was here again, where she's close to me.

The house was empty as usual. It's a little past sundown and I changed my uniform to home clothing. "Do you want to eat?" I asked her while browsing the kitchen cabinets.

She was trying to hide it, but I know she was glad to be back too. "I don't need to eat, you know that."

"I asked if you want to."

She rolled her eyes as a response and disappeared within a heartbeat; presumingly went to my room or wherever. I scoffed and grabbed a kimbap from the fridge. I wasn't hungry anyway.

And just when I entered my room she was the first thing I saw.

"So you act salty towards me but you're the one who arrives first in my room. Weird." I sarcastically remarked while taking a bite from my food.

"So did you want me to embarrass you after that talk about home." She raised a brow, teasing but also a hint of annoyance evident in her.

I scoffed and didn't answer.

"Hey. I have a question." I started.

"What is it?"

"Doyoung and I have been talking these days and he told me something. About a family secret-

I would've continued what I said, I really would. But catching a glimpse of her facial expression looking unsettled made me pause and retreat my words.

"Go on." She acted okay about it.

"Nevermind. It's whatever." I replied turning to the other side of my bed facing the wall, away from her.

Maybe it wasn't my place to ask something so personal or she wasn't ready to share it. She knew what I was gonna ask and it didn't sit right with her. That's enough reason for me to stop, even if she didn't say anything.

We spent the rest of the evening in silence. Perhaps having each other's presence made the night more comforting than usual. A stroke of freezing hair breezed right above me and moments after; I found myself asleep.

It's a Saturday morning. I had extra classes to take today. When I woke up, she wasn't anywhere to be seen but I knew she didn't wander off away from the house. Maybe she still wasn't okay with being back.

I understand why.

Going downstairs I had already fixed myself up for school. I was just planning to go the kitchen to leave something for Soyoung to eat, I guess. I just cooked a simple omelette with some kimbap.

Just when I was about to leave the house, my mom's voice echoed and she was calling for me. I found her standing at top of the stairs. I went back inside to ask what she wanted.

She looked like a disaster. Probably was out all night drinking again and went home past midnight since I didn't hear her come back. I can't tell who's the kid between us honestly.
