17. Ext JACK'S GARDEN, BLOSSOM HILL DAY 12:00 DAY 3

JACK AND LADY ARE SITTING ON THE TOP OF THE BLOSSOM HILL WAITING FOR BERTY WHO IS THE HEAD OF THE GARDEN INSECTS. HE IS OLD AND REFINED AND CAN BE QUITE UNCOUTH AT TIMES. LADY AND JACK CONTINUE TO WAIT UNTIL ALL OF A SUDDEN IT BEGINS TO RAIN.

LADY:

Right on schedule

JACK:

What the rain....? You know when its going to rain?!

LADY:

Yes, and now Berty's, he's here.

JACK LOOKS OVER TO WHERE LADY IS LOOKING AND SEES A SMALL CREATURE SLOWLY MAKING ITS WAY UP THE HILL.

LADY:

(Shouts)

Come on young man we don't have all day.

BERTY:

I'm coming. I'm not as young as you think lady.

JACK:

(Turns to Lady)

That's a slug

LADY:

You sure are quick, even for a human.

BERTY REACHES THE TOP OF THE HILL AND SEES LADY

BERTY:

Hello Lady, what a lovely day it is.

LADY:

Rainy with a touch of sun, definitely up your street.

BERTY SEES JACK STANDING NEXT TO LADY AND SLOWLY SLIDES OVER TO WHERE HE IS STANDING AND LOOKS INTENTLY AT HIM

BERTY:

And who do we have here?

LADY:

This is Jack, he is a human

BERTY:

(Sarcastic tone)

You don't say......really?!

JACK NODS TRINUMPHENTLY

BERTY:

(Looks at Lady)

Get rid of him

LADY:

What do you mean?

BERTY:

You heard me, I want him off of our land.

LADY:

But he needs our help

BERTY:

Ha! He doesn't need our help. He's a human, he kills insects like us. Have you not seen their track record. Lady I would have thought you of all people knew a lot better than to bring one of them around here.

LADY:

But he's different.

BERTY:

I can see that, he's ten times smaller, but that doesn't mean he's not a killer.

LADY:

Berty he is harmless, trust me. Do you really think I would fly him over here if he wasn't.

BERTY:

What you do is your choice, but we have a pact, no humans.

JACK WALKS UP TO BERTY

JACK:

Mr Slug I really don't want to cause you or anyone else for that matter any trouble, I just want to go home. Something terrible has happened to me and I just need to get back so that my dad can fix it.

BERTY:

Look kid, we have rules here and though you may not be the same size as those, those humans, you are still very much one of them. I can't do it.

JACK LOOKS AT BERTY  WANTING HIM TO CHANGE HIS MIND. BERTY HOWEVER DOESN'T BUDGE. JACK DECIDES TO TURN AWAY AND STARTS TO MAKE HIS OWN WAY BACK HOME.

LADY:

(Shouts)

Jack where are you going?

JACK:

(Disappointed)

I'm going home, thanks for the ride. I'm sorry I got you into trouble. I just want to go home.

LADY LOOKS OVER AT BERTY AND THEN BACK AT JACK

LADY:

Jack don't go, I'll fly you back to where I found you. It can get pretty dangerous out there, and plus it will take you months to cross over these paths.

THE RAIN HAS FINALLY STOPPED AND BERTY CAN SEE JACK AND LADY IN THE DISTANCE TALKING.

BERTY:

(Looks up towards the sky)

I'm going to regret this aren't I?

BERTY SLIDES OVER TO THE PINNICLE OF THE HILL AND SHOUTS

Hey kid, Lady come back here.

BOTH LADY AND JACK TURN AROUND

What are you doing standing there, the rain has stopped and I gotta get inside. Are you coming or not?

JACK LOOKS AT LADY AND SMILES. LADY LOOKS BACK AT JACK AND GIVES HIM A WINK. THEY BOTH WALK OVER TO WHERE BERTY IS STANDING

JACK:

(Whispers)

I thought you said he was nice?

LADY:

(Whispers)

He is Jack, he is.
