24. EXT JACK'S GARDEN, BLOSSOM HILL DAY 15:00 DAY 4

JACK AND LADY ARE SITTING ON TOP OF THE HILL, WAITING FOR BERTY. THE DAY IS SUNNY WITH A COOL BREEZE AND JACK IS TEACHING LADY TO PLAY HOP SCOTCH.

JACK:

It's now your turn.

LADY THROWS THE STONE AND HOPS ON OVER TO THE MAKE SHIFT HOP SCOTCH THAT JACK HAS MADE OUT OF LEAVES AND FALLEN TWIGS.

LADY:

This is so much fun. What do you call this?

JACK:

Hop Scotch, we play it at school. You're really good.

LADY:

Thanks

JACK AND LADY FINISH THEIR HOP SCOTCH GAME AND CONTINUE TO WAIT ON BLOSSOM HILL.

JACK TURNS TO LADY AS HE BRUSHES THE GRASS BLADES OFF HER SHELL. JACK SEES THE BEAUTIFUL BLACK SPOTS ON LADY'S BRIGHT RED SHELL.

JACK:

Wow you are beautiful. I love your black spots

LADY:

(Taken back by his comment)

Thanks, no one has ever said that to me before.

JACK:

Really?

LADY:

Yes. You know I try to stay fit, but I never seem to look as good as all the rest, they are slimmer and smaller than me.

JACK:

Well you look good to me, and you're different, you're not the same. I like that.

JUST THEN BERTY COMES WALKING UP THE HILL TO MEET LADY AND JACK.

JACK:

(Waves)

Hi Mr Slug.

BERTY:

(Out of breath)

Hi Kid

JACK:

How was work?

BERTY:

The same as always, a few complaints here and there but nothing I can't handle.

LADY:

Berty, Jack and I have been out delivering the flyers for tonight's meeting.

BERTY:

Good, good.

LADY:

We even bumped into Butterfly Sheila she is having a little trouble with, you know who, about you know what.

BERTY:

Why am I not surprised. Well ok, we better get going and get you cleaned up. (Turns to Jack)

JACK:

But I'm filthy as it is. I really stink.

BERTY:

Well if you want to hang out with us, you need to get cleaned up. You may think you stink but you still smell of the indoors and that can scare some of the insects away.

JACK:

Okay.....

BERTY LOOKS AT LADY AND THE SEAT PLASTERED TO HER BACK.

BERTY:

Lady what on earth is that?

LADY:

Oh that's just Jack's seat. I had to take him round on my errands this morning, and this is the safest thing I could think of so that he wouldn't fall out.

BERTY TAKES A CLOSER LOOK AT IT.

JACK:

Do you want to have a go, it's really cool. You can see everything.

BERTY:

No that's ok kid, just checking to see how she did it that's all.

LADY:

Ok Jack, you heard what Berty said, lets get you cleaned up and ready. Hop in.

(Turns to Berty)

Are you coming with us Berty I can take you down before I take Jack to get cleaned up.

BERTY:

Thanks but I think I'm just going to stay out here for a bit, rains coming and

I could do with the extra moisture.

LADY:

Ok, so see you back at the Avenue.

BERTY:

Yes see you there.

LADY AND JACK TAKE OFF AND LEAVE BERTY SITTING AT THE TOP OF BLOSSOM HILL. JACK WAVES BERTY GOODBYE AND STRAPS HIMSELF TIGHTLY INTO THE CHAIR. LADY ZOOMS PAST THE FLOWERS, GRASS ROOTS, THROUGH THE LEAVES AND PAST THE TREES. JACK IS USING HIS HANDS AS BINOCULARS TO TAKE IN THE MOVING SCENERY AND PRETENDS THAT HE'S A PILOT, AS LADY TWISTS AND TURNS THROUGH THE GARDEN AND INTO THE AVENUE.

THEY FINALLY LAND AND JACK JUMPS OFF AND OUT OF THE CHAIR.

JACK:

Thanks Lady, you were going really fast. I loved it!

LADY:

Just wanted to make sure I brought you back in enough time to get you cleaned up. You remember where it is?

JACK:

Yes

LADY:

Great, well I will leave you to it. Berty will be here soon and he will take you to the den.

JACK:

Ok.

LADY LEAVES JACK TO GET CLEANED UP.
