9. INT ST PETER'S PRIMARY SCHOOL, SCIENCE CLASSROOM DAY 11:00 DAY 2

JACK IS IN CLASS CONDUCTING AN EXPERIMENT WITH HIS CLASSMATE JONAH. THEY ARE TESTING THE ACIDITY IN DIFFERENT FOODS.

JACK:

(Yawns)

This is so boring, when do we start the exciting stuff.

JONAH:

What do you mean, this is great, I love testing food and eating it afterwards.

JACK:

Jonah there is a lot more to science than just testing it and eating it. You can find out new and exciting things. Change the world, develop a cure and discover new atoms.

JONAH:

Yes, or we could just do what Mr Milligan has asked us and test the acidity in these four fruits and get an A.

JACK LOOKS DOWN AT THE SHEET OF PAPER WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE LESSON.

JACK:

Ok, well. We've done apple, next up is orange.

JONAH HEADS FOR THE ORANGE AND BEGINS TO TEST IT.

JONAH:

Come on Jack this can't be all that boring. At my old school they never allowed us to experiment like this. Our closest experiment was reading it in some book.

JACK:

Yeah, this is cool. I'm just....

JONAH:

Just what.....its because your dad's a scientist, so you must see loads of cool experiments.

JACK:

Yeah, I get to help him and see all the cool stuff he is working on and it's ten times better than this.

MR MILLIGAN WALKS BY AND INTERRUPTS THEM

MR MILLIGAN:

Boys must you chatter so much. Some of us are on our third fruit and you have only just finished testing the apple. You really are slowing the rest of the class down.

JACK AND JONAH:

Sorry sir.

JACK AND JONAH BOTH COMPLETE THEIR ASSIGNMENT IN RECORD TIME AND SIT DOWN, WAITING FOR THE REST OF THE CLASS TO CATCH UP.

MR MILLIGAN STARTS TO EXPLAIN ATOMS AND REACTIVITY.

JACK IS LISTENING ATTENTIVELY AS THE CLASS WRITES DOWN ALL THAT MR MILLIGAN IS SAYING.

MR MILLIGAN:

Jack are you not writing any of this down like the rest of the class.

JACK:

Huh, oh no sir. I just like to listen. I learn more by listening than writing.

10. EXT OUTSIDE ST PETER'S PRIMARY SCHOOL DAY 15:30 DAY 2

JACK IS WAITING OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL GATES FOR HIS MUM WITH JONAH WHO IS HOLDING A TRUMPET CASE IN HIS HANDS.

JONAH:

What you doing after school?

JACK:

Going home to do my homework and hang out with my dad. We're working on something special.

JONAH:

Cool, can I come?

JACK:

I thought you had a trumpet lesson.

JONAH:

No, it got cancelled. The teacher's sick, so I'm free to come round.

JACK:

Ok, but I don't think you can come round, not today anyway. You see what my dad is working on is kind of top secret and you wouldn't be safe.

JONAH:

Oh come onnnnn, I can keep a secret.

JACK STARES AT JONAH

JONAH:

What........., it was just one time.

JACK:

Well that one time, cost you this time. Sorry Jonah but maybe next time.

JONAH:

Ok well see you tomorrow. We have a test tomorrow and I need to revise. Mrs Mitch doesn't like it if I get less than eighty percent.

JACK:

Yes well she doesn't like it if I get less than fifty. Who knew PE would be so hard.

JONAH'S MUM DRIVES UP TO THE GATES. JONAH HEADS TOWARDS THE CAR

JONAH:

See you Jack.

JACK:

Yeah see you tomorrow.
