Chapter 8

Friend

I woke up the next morning na hirap na hirap imulat ang mata ko. My eyes are painful, result of my crying overnight. Great. It's Saturday, and it's a lazy day for me I just wanna lay on my bed all day. Sa Monday, I'm moving into my new school without all my friends from Westbridge knowing. Pinagmasdan ko ang buong kwarto, bagong kwarto ko. Kevin and I are not in the same room, thank goodness. The room looks so peaceful and relaxing. Lahat ng kailangan ko nandito na. Sa walk in closet ko ay lahat ay bago, I guess kailangan ko ng sanayin ang sarili ko.

Last night, di rin naman kame nag-uusap ni Kevin. He's busy with phone calls and his laptop. Business thingy I guess. I decided na tumayo na at maligo na and fix myself tsaka ako bumaba and the house is so quiet. Parang walang tao? Pumunta ako sa kitchen at halos maligaw pa ko. Naabutan ko ang nakatalikod na may edad na babae na nagluluto. Parang naramdaman niyang may tao sa likod niya kaya tumingin siya.

"Ay Ma'am gising na po pala kayo, tamang-tama ho at luto na itong agahan niyo, upo na ho kayo" sabi ng matandang kasama siguro sa bahay kaya umupo na ako.

"Salamat po, wag niyo na po pala ako tawaging ma'am, Denise nalang po." Ngumiti sa akin ang matanda at tumango.

"Osige iha, salamat. Manang nalang ang itawag mo saken. Ako ang nag-aalaga kay Kevin simula ng bata pa iyon, at napamahal na ko sa batang iyon kaya ito at hindi na ko umalis, hiling din iyon ni Kevin kaya ito nga." Napa-tango ako at nagkwentuhan pa kame ni Manang. Buti nalang at may makakausap na ko dito sa bahay. Sinabe din saken ni Manang na maagang umalis si Kevin dahil may problema sa opisina. Like I care d'ba? And perhaps, kasal lang naman kame sa papel. Napa-iling nalang ako at nanuod nalang ng tv.

Past 6 ng dumating si Kevin and surely he's from his work. Nalaman ko kay manang na he's 2 years older pala saken. I'm 20 years old at 22 naman siya yet very successful at his young age. Sabi pa ni manang na nag-take over daw agad si Kevin sa posisyon ng father niya pagka-graduate niya palang at nagulat ang lahat dahil mas naging successful ang kompanya. Kaya mabilis siyang sumikat sa business world at at his young age and hindi kataka-takang young successful bachelor siya. Nanunuod ako ng pumasok sa bahay si Kevin, sinulyapan ko lang siya saglit.

You don't expect me to go to him and ask him how's his day right? That would be impossible. Tinignan ko ang bagong phone ko na walang ibang contacts kundi si Mama, Papa at Kevin. Binigay ni Papa saken to, according to him ay bagong bili ito at para masigurado na wala akong contact from my past. Right now, I don't totally have any way to contact my friends. All my social media accounts are deactivated at kahit hindi sabihin ni Papa, alam kong nag-hire siya ng private bodyguard for me. Wala akong takas.

"Let's go, dinner's served." May nagsalita from my back and it was Kevin, nakabihis na siya ng pj's at white shirt. I nod a bit and follow his steps through the kitchen. Tahimik kamin kumain, no one really dares to speak. I hate awkward situations, really. I looked at Kevin dahil bigla siyang tumikhim.

"You're... You're dad called me and told me they'll be having a out of town trip. He told me to remind you." I slowly nod. Bakit kailangan na kay Kevin pa sabihin ni Papa kung pwede namang ako ang tawagan niya.

"If you need anything, just tell me." He said as he put his dishes on the sink and get out of the kitchen. I sighed. I hope kaya ko pang tagalan ang ganitong sitwasyon.

It's Monday and ngayon na ang first day ko sa Southcrest University. I'm so nervous dahil walang-wala pa kong kakilala dito at isa pa, i need to catch up with Southcrest's lessons dahil last month na to ng first sem, at last sem na after. Maaga akong gumising at nagbihis ng black cropped tee na may print na Nirvana and a high waisted gray pants paired with my black vans. I get my sling bag at agad na bumaba. Naabutan ko si Kevin na nagbabasa ng newspaper while drinking his coffee. He's already wearing his business attire that makes him look more intimidating.

I sat infront of him kaya binaba niya ang newspaper na hawak niya at sandaling tumingin saken then he started eating too. After ay sabi niya, ihahatid niya na ko. I refused but he insist so were on our way to Westcrest.

When I got to Westcrest ay agad akong pumunta sa office a t binigyan ako ng sched and I go to my first subject. When ai got into the room, everybody was looking at me. I know nagtataka sila dahil nga naman hindi pa naman last sem ay may bago agad na estudyante. I roam my eyes to see of there's a vacant seat at agad din naman akong nakakita kaya umupo ako near the window beside a girl na mukhang bubbly.

"Hi! Bago ka d'ba?" I was shocked when she talked to me after I sat down. Ang friendly niya naman, she looks kind.

"Ah, yeah." I said while nodding.

"I'm Alyssa Almario, call me Aly! I can be your friend if you want" she cheerfully said. Para siyang pinaghalong Trisha at Ashley. Mukhang mataray at maingay pero friendly.

"Denise. Denise Ty" i said and smiled at her. We talked at gumaan agad ang loob ko sa kanya hanggang sa in-announce na hindi darating ang prof for today dahil may meeting ang faculty members. Sayang, excited pa naman ako ng konti dahil new professors ang makikita ko. Lumabas kame at pumuntang caf para kumain at para mag-chikahan pa rin.

"Nakakapag-taka na di mo pa tinapos ang first sem sa last school mo. I mean, 2 weeks nalang at tapos na ang first sem. Pwede ka naman lumipat sa last sem pero yun nga nakakapagtaka na hindi mo pa natapos ang first sem sa last school mo." Napatango ako. I can't tell her. It's not that I don't trust Aly, honestly kahit few hours ko palang siya nakilala I know that she is a very good person. She already told me some of her secrets pero ako wala pang binubunyag sa kanya.

"As much as I wanna tell you the reason Aly, but... I'm reall not ready yet." I explained as she nod a bit and smiled at me.

"I understand Denise. I won't force you to tell me, basta always remember that I'm always ready to hear whatever problem you have in there. I hope na I can earn your trust." She said and I was touched kase I heard these from her. I mean, yung iba walang pake kahit may problema ka, some friends are like that.

While were eating, I received a text message and it was from Kevin.

From: Kevin
I'm gonna pick you up. What time is your dismissal?

Nararamdaman kong may pupuntahan kame. Maybe, we'll go to his parents dahil wala naman sila Mama at Papa. I just replied to Kevin and said goodbye to Aly. We also exchanged numbers kase were friends na nga. I'm very happy na I already got a friend kahit first day ko palang dito.
