It's Like a Bump in The Road

Kai hasn't done anything yet.

It's the next morning, and after the shower, he acted as if nothing had happened. He got in fresh clothes and gave me forehead kisses.

My jaw is going to be sore from how long I've had my mouth open in surprise. He hasn't teased me this morning, either.

I'm really confused.

"Do you want to get some of the breakfast they have downstairs before we have to leave?" Kai asks me as he puts our stuff in our backpacks.

"Sure." I respond. I go to put my shoes in and walk towards the door, but Kai grabs my waist and pulls me towards him.

Oh no. This is it. I'm dead.

But Kai surprises me and kisses me.

"I love you." He whispers. I smile.

"I love you, too." I reply.

"Let me come with you. I just have to put my shoes on." He states. I nod. He finishes what he's doing and grabs my hand to intertwine his fingers with mine.

He opens the door for me and closes it behind us. We go to the hotel lobby, and they have so much food. I get a muffin because why not.

Kai doesn't get anything- he just watches me with a smile. I eat the food as we walk back to our room.

"Aren't you hungry?" I ask as Kai unlocks our door.

"I'm a bit thirsty, but I think I'll be okay." He replies.

"Are you sure? I mean you can have some of my blood if you want." I state. Kai hesitates for a few seconds before grabbing my wrist.

"I think I'll have to take you up on that offer." The black veins flash under his eyes as he sinks his teeth into my wrist.

It actually feels good.

I accidentally let out a moan, and I can see Kai trying to suppress a smirk. He lets go of my wrist and wipes his mouth with his thumb.

"Thanks, princess." He whispers.

I think my insides just melted.

"You okay, Elle?" Kai asks in a sarcastic voice.

Oh, fuck you.

Kai raises his eyebrows.

"What was that?" He asks in a very knowing voice.

Shit.

Why does this always happen?

"I didn't say anything. I think your hearing has gotten worse." I remark. Kai chuckles.

"We should get going. Don't want to get too distracted." He says, grabbingour backpacks.

We leave the hotel room and give our keycards to the receptionist. We didn't really have a plan as to where we would be going next, but we knew we had to leave soon.

We climb in the car and drive off onto the highway. I hope this doesn't last for long.

I just want to be happy without having to worry about someone kidnapping or killing me.

"We're going to have to get gas soon." I speak up. Kai nods.

The arrow is ticking towards the bright E.

I also need to go to the bathroom. Hopefully whichever gas station we end up at has a bathroom.

We pull off onto a tremendously small road to stop at a miniature corner gas station. There's two pumps with a tiny store.
