Rory and Logan walked hand in hand through the doors of Dynasty Makers. They were greeted by the 20 foot tall black and white portrait of Paris next to her business' mission statement. Logan stopped dead in his tracks.
"I know its a little much. But you know Paris..." Rory gave a tug to Logan's hand trying to get him to move his stare from the portrait.
He breathed in deep. "I imagine this is what hell would be like...well, a 20 foot Paris coupled with a Huntzberger dinner."
Rory laughed, "Hush you." Logan finally continued along with her after a few more tugs on his arm from Rory. They walked to the bay of elevators and pushed the button for the 3rd floor that was labeled "Ultrasounds and Maternity Appointments".
The doors to the elevator opened and before they could even step off, they were greeted with Paris standing in front of them.
"Huntzberger...surprised after all your years of sowing those wild oats you wouldn't have been in here sooner...." Paris was tapping her foot showing her general annoyance. She continued, before they could even speak, "Figured you'd be late."
Logan turned to Rory, his eyes wide suddenly questioning why they had not chosen a new doctor. They stepped off the elevator and he looked at his watch. "Good to see you too... five minutes, Paris. Five minutes....most of which we spent taking in the enormous portrait in the lobby."
"Well, I mean you have cancelled this appointment twice already so...I guess late is a relative term."
Rory stepped forward, embracing Paris in a hug. "We are so appreciative of you doing this Paris." She knew that would turn the tide with Paris and refocus her off of her general annoyance with Logan.
Paris began leading the way back to the room, and Rory fell back to be next to Logan, who had put a good 4 step break between Paris and himself. "Are we really that appreciative?" he whispered to Rory. Rory slapped Logan's arm playfully.
Paris walked them into the room, and explained what they would do today. "Since you are now, almost 15 weeks...I will preform a normal physical exam, get measurements and then do the anatomy ultrasound. After that I will send you downstairs so the phlebotomists and take some blood for some genetic tests. Lay back on the table Rory and pull your shirt up and the top of your leggings down." Logan sat in the chair next to the exam table. "Measurements are good. Means baby is growing well." She continued her check. "Everything seems right on schedule." Paris rolled the large ultra machine over to the side of the table.
Rory flinched as the cold gel was put on her stomach again. Immediately they were greeted by the sound of a heartbeat. Logan pulled Rory's hand to his lips and kissed it. Rory closed her eyes taking the sound in, while Paris went to work doing all the measurements of the baby, checking the internal organs and fluid levels.
"So, I am ready to let you know gender if you want to know."
Logan and Rory looked at each other, and smiled. "Of course we want to know! I was never good at the whole enjoying the surprise thing and months of not knowing....." Logan knew Rory well enough to know that was the truth.
Paris turned on the big screen in the room so they could see what she was looking at. Rory and Logan studied the photo for a long time before Logan broke the silence that had filled the room. "You gotta tell us what we are looking at Paris. All I see is circles and lines and occasionally what I think is a hand move across the screen."
"Oh yeah, sorry. I am not usually in the room for this part." Paris began moving the cursor circling an area on the screen. She began typing...."I AM A...." She flipped the screen off and began typing.
"OH COME ON PARIS!" Rory said loudly. Paris smirked at Rory, flipping the switch for the screen again. There on the screen was one big word...."BOY"
"Congratulations you two. It's a boy." Logan stood up, arms extended in the air. He quickly bent down to kiss Rory.
"A boy," Rory repeated, while Logan was hugging her tightly. Paris wiped the gel off of Rory's stomach and replaced her clothes for her. Logan stood back and grabbed onto Rory's hands pulling her up and off the bed into a standing position slowly. It was hard from him to stop embracing her- the mother of his child, the woman he had loved for the past almost 13 years.
Paris patted Logan on the back. "Ok, Casanova. I have other appointments, but take her down to the 2nd floor for that bloodwork and then you are free to go." Logan and Rory released their embrace. Paris grabbed both of Rory's hands in hers, "Congrats my friend. 4 weeks from now, I better see you again. No cancelling this time." She placed new photos of their little boy in her hands. Rory nodded and thanked Paris again before she and Logan made their way back to bay of elevators.
Logan kissed Rory as soon as they were in the elevator. "A boy," he repeated softly looking at the photos Paris had given them. "I will be such a better dad than my dad ever was." Rory grabbed his hand tightly with her left hand and with her right hand she was fumbling around in her purse for her cell phone. Logan chuckled to himself, releasing her hands. "Call your mom."
Rory smiled, as they stepped off the elevator. "I will be right back." She headed towards the bathroom while the phone was ringing through to her mom.
Lorelai picked up right away. "Hey hun. Luke's here too...So do we have a Lucy or a Ricky?"
Rory giggled. "It's a he mom." Lorelai and Luke could not stop saying how excited they were and how they knew he was going to be adorable. Rory took a deep breath. "Mom, I don't know how to do 'boy'. Girls..girls, I know but boys...."
"You got this Ror- You one million percent got this."
Rory took a breath as soon as her mom said that. "That is all I needed to hear ....thanks. But, I have to go Logan is waiting and I have to get bloodwork done and-"
"You are calling us when you're in the bathroom aren't you?" Lorelai asked.
"Is there a better place?"
"Like mother like daughter. I can not tell you the amount of times your mom has called me while in the bathroom, " Luke interjected.
They said their good-byes and Rory told them that she would make it back to Stars Hollow sometimes in the coming week. Rory walked out the door to find Logan sitting the the chair by the phlebotomist station, huge grin on his face, still gazing at the pictures Paris had printed out. She walked up quietly to Logan, sitting down next to him and laying her head on his shoulder.
"Kinda looks like an alien, huh?" She whispered, with a chuckle.
"Cutest baby alien boy ever," Logan replied, laying his hand on her belly.
As soon as the bloodwork was over, they headed out to lunch and enjoyed the rest of Logan's afternoon away from work- just the two of them basking in the joy of knowing they would be welcoming a boy.
