Today was going exactly how Melody pictured it. Extremely annoying.
They had her parents cremated for obvious reason so the funeral was more of a ceremony. It was held in her back yard, there was huge white tents with multiple seats under each one. At the very front was a blown up photo of her parents with their favorite flowers surrounding it, roses for her dad and sunflowers for her mom.
It was beautiful and Melody appreciated all the work her Grandmother put in with the limited time she had.
At the ceremony people were able to give speeches, which Melody did not partake in, but many others did. They all talked about how much they loved her parents and how great they were during their lives.
It was actually comical to her hearing all of these people talk about her parents like they really knew them. They knew the side that her parents wanted them to know, nothing else.
Most of the people here were for her father considering her mother didn't have no family to contact, she was an only child and same with her Mother who was a single parent but she passed away. So only a few of her Mothers friends and co-workers were here.
The only speech that didn't have her wanting to gouge her eyes out, was her fathers best friend. He gave the most real and authentic speech, something she felt deep.
" Gregory was a good man. He was a great business man and an amazing father. Sometimes he put so much into his work because he was so scared of not being able to provide for his family. Anybody that met him was able to see his intense love for his family and that is something he always inspired in me. No matter how busy he always made time if needed and nothing was more important than them. He was a true and loyal friend who never hesitated to help when someone was down and was extremely generous. He was always willing to give even with his employees something else I admired. He tried his best with the circumstances he was given and he will alway have my respect for the man he was."
It was after the ceremony and people were gathered every where downstairs eating, drinking, talking, and doing business. These people never missed an opportunity to do business, and a lot of them was not trying to miss getting to Melody. Now that her parents were gone they all knew Melody being their only child would inherit both of her parents business. Her father owned multiple resorts, hotels, and shares in other companies. Her mom was a Realtor, leaseholder and landlord who rented many homes and vacation houses. So it was a lot that she was going to inherit, most of these people wanted to take advantage of her being young and just losing her parents.
They were all fools and truly under estimated her and that's their mistake. Melody was an extremely intelligent woman especially for her age. She graduated college at 18 with 3 degrees and has spent the last 3 years learning her father's business. Even when she was younger her bonding time with her father was him teaching her the tricks of his world and how to be the best at it.
She wish she'd learned just as much from her mother but unfortunately what she taught her was how to be a prop. She taught her how to fake it, which provided to be more valuable than Melody thought.
At the moment she didn't really feel like being fake and was not in the mood to talk about business. So many were disappointed with her short replies.
Currently she was trying to find a way to disappear from the gathering, but that was proven to be impossible. Every time she got out of a conversation with someone another person was right behind them ready for their turn. She was just about to start ignoring people.
"I knew your parents for years and they were great people. You know me and your father was in the middle of a deal right before he passed, so sad we wasn't able to finish it." A big old hefty man with a full white beard said, he kind of reminded her of Santa clause.
