Jasmine leaned against the window, staring out at the snow. "Wow, it's really coming down," she said to Anthony. "I wonder how long this is gonna last."
"It's supposed to last for a few more hours," Anthony responded. "You wanna watch a movie while we're here?"
"Yeah, I'm down with that," she said and the two of them cuddled up on the couch together.
"You feeling any less nauseous?" he asked, stroking her hair back.
"Yeah, it's pretty much gone," she told him.
"Does morning sickness usually last into the afternoon?" he said.
"The doctor said sometimes but it's completely normal and doesn't hurt baby," she responded.
"Oh that's good," he said, pressing a quick kiss to her lips.
They snuggled up together for the next half hour, until both of their phones went off with a weather alert. Jasmine stayed snuggled up to him while he checked his phone.
"Uh oh," he mumbled.
"What is it?" she asked, sitting up.
"There's a severe weather alert in effect now," he responded, showing her the notification. "It's recommending not to leave your house unless absolutely necessary."
"Oh..." she said softly. "Well I guess these will be our plans for the next few hours."
"No complaining from me," he said, kissing her forehead. The two of them snuggled back up again, talking quietly about which movies they wanted to watch.
The plan was suddenly foiled when the lights started flickering and the TV turned off. "I think the power went out," Anthony said, sitting up.
Jasmine started to lay down again, but then the realization hit her. "That means the heat went out too," she reminded him. "It's 16° outside."
She saw the realization hit him too and he mumbled, "Shit. Is it safe for you to be in cold weather?"
"Yeah, my doctor said that being in cold weather can lower their birth rate, even if they're born at full term," she told him.
He went upstairs immediately and Jasmine stood up, cradling her bump. "Ant, what're you doing?" she asked
"Just a minute!" he responded.
He came down a few minutes later with a big bundle of blankets and she laughed.
"'M not letting anything happen to you or baby," he said.
She smiled, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. They snuggled up on the couch in their blanket cocoon and Jasmine laid her head on his chest. She closed her eyes and rested against him, knowing that it would start to get colder.
Anthony wrapped the blanket around her tighter and kissed her forehead, rubbing her back.
They rested for about an hour before the cold started to seep in. At first it was just a little uncomfortableness but then they started to notice it more.
"How you doin'?" Anthony asked. "How's the baby?"
"We're okay," she told him. "A little cold, but not to the point where it's dangerous."
He nodded and held her closer to him, leaning his cheek against her forehead. She let out a deep sigh, burying her face against his chest.
They fell asleep once again for another half hour but Anthony grew more concerned when he woke up to her shivering harder.
"Baby you okay?" he asked.
"I'm really cold," she mumbled.
"What can I do to help you warm up?" he asked. "You wanna keep cuddling or I can start up a fire or we can call around and see if anyone else still has electricity."
"A fire would be nice and if I still can't warm up, we can call around," she said.
He got up and grabbed some logs and matches while she stayed curled up on the couch. Once he got everything fired up, she went over and sat in his lap.
He wrapped his arms around her, placing his hands on her small bump. She tucked herself against him, already feeling the heat from the fire warm her up.
Anthony pressed gentle kisses to her neck, his main focus on keeping her and the baby warm.
"You staying warm darling?" she asked after a few minutes.
"I'm okay," he responded. "I've got blankets and you and the fire."
She nodded, placing her hands over his. It took another hour before the lights flickered back on and they heard the heat coming through the vents.
"Oh thank god," Jasmine said.
He picked her up, carrying her to the couch and laying her down. Jasmine watched as he grabbed a heating pad, warming it up in the microwave and then bringing it back to her.
She snuggled up against him once more, placing the heating pad at her feet. He brushed her hair back, kissing her forehead again.
She fell asleep against him again, waking up and feeling much warmer.
"Okay, yeah the heat's back on and baby's making me hot again," she said, sitting up.
"Alright, well we've learned our lesson," he said, sitting up with her and laughing. "Next time there's a snowstorm, I'm building a fire before we get the chance that the electricity goes out."
She smiled and kissed him softly. "Next time I'm stealing all the blankets for myself."
happy birthday maggie ☺️❤️
