Jasmine smoothed her hands over her stomach, staring at herself in the mirror.
"Honey, you look beautiful," her mom said, standing right next to her.
"Thank you mama," she responded, a permanent smile on her face.
"Anthony is going to melt into a puddle of tears when he sees you," Sarah commented and Jasmine laughed.
"He better not," she said. "I'm marryin' him."
One floor up, Anthony was straightening his tie, trying to remember the little things.
"Mario, you got the ring?" he asked, turning to his brother.
"Yes, I do," he responded. "Calm down bro. Everything's going to be okay."
Anthony nodded, looking up when there was a knock on the door. "Come in!" he called.
His mom opened the door and told him, "They're ready when you are."
Anthony felt his heart start beating two times faster and he said, "Tell them we're ready."
Jasmine was fussing with a few flowers in her bouquet, waiting for confirmation. She felt like her heart was about to beat out of her rib cage, but she couldn't take the smile off her face.
Her soon-to-be mother in law came in with a smile on her face. "They're headed to the alter," she told them. "You can go ahead and line up."
Jasmine felt her smile grow wider and they went out into the hallway where the ushers were standing at the closed doors.
Jasmine's father took her hand and kissed her forehead. "You look beautiful bird," he said. "I've been dreading this day since you were born, but you found someone who makes you extremely happy and that makes me extremely happy."
Jasmine felt tears well, but she pushed them back. "Thanks Dad," she responded.
The ushers announced it was time and Jasmine stood straighter, putting her hand in the crook of her father's elbow.
Meanwhile, Anthony was standing at the alter, resisting his urge to run down the aisle and throw open the doors.
"Dude, if you two start crying, you know I'm going to," Lin mumbled so only Anthony could hear.
"I've been preparing for this for weeks and I'm still not ready," he responded, seeing the first couple walk down.
Jasmine gripped her bouquet a bit tighter as the last couple was sent down.
"Are you ready?" her dad asked.
"Yes yes and yes," she responded and the ushers opened the doors all the way, gesturing her through.
Anthony's jaw dropped as soon as he saw her and tears welled up in his eyes, a couple falling.
Jasmine laughed quietly, feeling a few of her own tears fall.
Everyone else seemed to disappear as the couple only focused on each other, feeling the happiest they had ever been.
At then end of the aisle, he father kissed her head and handed her to Anthony. He slid his hand into hers, a few years still on his cheeks.
"Oh my god," he whispered. "You're the most beautiful girl in the world."
She giggled, squeezing his hand. "And you look handsome my darling," she responded.
The wedding seems to pass in a flash and they finally got to the vows. Jasmine went first, taking both of his hands in hers.
"Anthony Ramos, I have loved you ever since the day we first met. You made me smile and laugh and you made me feel beautiful. You still do to this day. I knew I wanted to marry from the beginning. Even through everything, I never doubted that. We survived long distance, a whole damn quarantine, doing shows without each other, and so much more and I never stopped wanting to be with you. I'd marry you even if you became a puddle of tears like Sarah said you would, which I guess kinda happened already. You make me feel safe, loved, extremely happy, supported, and beautiful. I loved you with all my heart 5 years ago and I still feel the same way today. I love you and I will never stop, no matter what."
Both of them had tears streaming down their faces and Anthony chuckled.
"Well, I don't know how I'm gonna too that, but here goes. Jasmine Cephas Jones, the minute I saw you, I knew you were the one. There was something about you that made me fall head over heels in love and get butterflies in my stomach. I got that same feeling all over again when you walked down the aisle. No matter what happened, you held my hand and you never let go. Not to say that these last few years have been easy, but you know what they say, nothing worth fighting for ever is. I would rather walk through hell to be with you than be without you. You make every day that much better just by being there. You are the most beautiful, loving, supportive, amazing girl in the world and I love you with everything in my body."
Jasmine tried to push her tears back, but she couldn't, simply squeezing his hand.
Lin looked like he was about to melt into a puddle on the floor and he blotted his eyes with a tissue before continuing.
"Alright," he said. "I think we've all officially died, so let's continue."
Everyone laughed and he turned to Jasmine.
"Do you take Anthony Ramos as your lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?"
"I do," Jasmine responded, taking the wedding band from Sarah and sliding it onto his finger.
"And Anthony, do you take Jasmine Cephas Jones as your lawful wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?" Lin said.
"Oh god yes," Anthony responded, making everyone laugh and he slid her wedding ring onto her finger.
"Then, by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You make kiss the bride," he said.
The words had barely left his mouth before Anthony wrapped his arms around Jasmine's waist, kissing her. She melted into it, gently cupping his face.
They faintly heard people cheering, but everything melted and it was just the two of them in that moment.
Jasmine pulled away first, giggling and leaning her forehead against his.
"I love you hubby," she whispered so only he could hear her.
"I love you too wifey."
