From then on it only got better after we stopped again, this time I was driving and Stefan besides me, and Grumpy Wolf Santa in the back seat, sulking.

“Aww don’t be so sad, we’re going to get you a kid’s meal for lunch okay, kiddo?” I say trying to put on my best motherly impression, looking at Klaus through the mirror.

“Yeah and we can go to the playground afterwards.” Stefan said, playing along.

“I swear, if you don’t stop this I will torture you both as much as you’re torturing me” he said, clenching his jaw and his nails digging into his palm.

“Stop with the childish squabbling and grow up Nik,” I said ignoring his very cruel threat; Stefan stared at me like I was crazy for continuing when he was that angry. “You’re not four anymore”

“You’re right. I’m a thousand year old hybrid that can kill you in seconds.”

“What makes you so sure, hm?” I asked, teasing tone gone.

“Is that challenge I hear in your voice, my dear Amber?” he asked defiantly

“Look, I’m not saying I can take you down, all I’m saying is that I’m everything you are, and a witch. Just wondering, really” I shrugged and turned my attention back to the road. I felt both of their stares at me “Stop staring, it’s rude.” I said in a quiet voice.

After that there wasn’t much talk so I connected my phone to my car through Bluetooth, put my favorite band on and ‘converted’ my convertible so the wind flew freely in the car, more than pleased with the current situation I sang along loudly to ‘Irresistible’ probably one of my favorite songs of Fall Out Boy.

Time flies by when you’re having fun. By fun I mean screaming along to your favorite songs in a car with two immortals while stuffing your face with chips, and also annoying your super powerful hybrid of a father. It was an incredibly long trip to Chicago, seeing as we had to cross about five states. We stopped in Colorado, in a city which name I didn’t bother to ask. Klaus being Klaus took us to a fancy hotel. He and I headed to our room whilst Stefan ran a few errands for Santa Hybrid.

“Is it fun? Dragging someone away from their family and friends to make them your errand boy?” I said slightly annoyed at Klaus’ way of treating Stefan. He ignored my question and talked.

“I have noticed you’re taking a liking to the youngest Salvatore, you two have been spending some time alone, but from what I’ve seen, aside from the small playful fights, you two get along just fine. I have to say this and I’m going to say it now, that boy is only here because I saved his brother’s life and he owes me, the moment I say he can go back to Mystic Falls he will go back in a second, he’s not going to think twice, he’s not going to look back, he’ll just leave. She might be dead but he won’t stay.” I didn’t know what to say, Klaus looked like he was saying the truth, his eyes were compassionate, a look I had never seen on him before. Maybe he cares. I pushed that thought aside and answered.

“What brought this on? Jeez, Klaus! I’m not like in love with him or anything. I know it was Elena, it’s Elena and it will always be Elena.  I know that, I just can’t help to want a little fun.”

“That’s the problem, Amber, it’s always fun and games until things get real, when feelings-” he said that with disgust “get in the way. The problem is that, when they do, there’s not much you can do about it. Don’t get too attached to things you can’t keep.” I had no time to think about what he said before he changed the topic “So, anyway, I talked to a witch about your…case. Your magic is very peculiar and it was thought that the kind of magic your family used- I assume you remember the story- is no longer used now, well, just by few who have kept the knowledge passed on by ancestors. Contrary to what I thought, it’s not black magic, it’s a very uncommon spiritual magic, not the same kind the Bennet witch used, or the others that normal witches use, it’s different, more powerful. That’s one of the reasons we’re going to Chicago. There’s a witch who can explain all this much better than I can, and I got you some stuff for you to practice, that’s what Stefan is getting right now.”
