Looking back, Camila's first month in England had passed in a blur. On the other hand, it was filled with so many memories, it was hard to believe it had just been 30 days.
Talking to Sally, hanging out with Jake, evenings at the pub with her friends from university, a trip to London, dinners with Aki, hours at the beach and so much more.
She was thinking about it while she, once again, sat in Jake and Sally's living room, this time together with Jake's little sister Abby.
As it was her first time in her brother's new apartment, she was looking around carefully. Camila inconspicuously did the same, as the furniture had moved again.
"I like it," Abby declared eventually. With the level of complacency on her face, one could assume that her seal of approval was the highest praise this room could possibly receive.
"Are you sure? Isn't this wall a little... vacant?" Jake asked, gesturing to the huge, blank wall behind the sofa.
"Don't you dare touch anything now," Sally said, groaning. "It's good how it is."
Camila glanced at her, biting her cheek to keep the smile from spreading. Mostly in silence, she had been watching the roommates fight about decorating the living room for the last weeks and somehow, it still was fun to watch.
Once her eyes were on Sally, they refused to leave her again. The Brit's appearance was as perfect and immaculate as always.
She felt more and more drawn to her. Sally was exciting, infuriating, and confusing all at once but most of all, she was real. It was obvious that this woman was flawed but for some reason, Camila couldn't find it in herself to care.
Something about the way she acted around her made Camila feel special. As someone who had often felt plain or boring, it meant a lot. This feeling was almost addictive. Mainly because of that and the trust that was undoubtedly between them, she couldn't bring herself to decrease their contact even though she knew she should.
Sally, noticing Camila staring, shot her a smile and questioning look. Camila shook her head at herself. "I see your point," she quickly said to Jake.
Sally glared at her. Ignoring her, Camila added, "You are good at drawing, aren't you? Why don't you just decorate it a bit?"
"You want to draw on a wall?" Jake asked, the doubt on his face evident.
Sally hummed in contemplation. "It might look cool."
She left the room and came back two minutes later with some pens. Giving one to everyone in the room, she said, "Let's go for it."
"If this doesn't look good, you are the one who has to repaint the wall." Jake sighed but made the beginning. He chose a spot close to the floor and started drawing some patterns.
Sally shook her head at his caution and proceeded to write her name in huge letters in the very middle of the wall. Abby, who followed Sally in most things she did as Camila had noticed, squeaked in enthusiasm and followed her example.
Sally looked at Camila, urging her to do the same. She for one highly doubted this was a good idea. After all, how high were the chances they were able to maintain a friendship after those remaining 5 months? For all the time they would be living there, possibly years, her name would be on their wall.
When both Jake and Sally insisted, Camila begrudgingly wrote her name in the middle of the wall in smaller letters, not without an unsettling feeling in her stomach.
Both roommates were so accepting and heartily. Once they decided they liked someone, they would make them a big part of their lives, no matter how long they have known them. Camila loved that about them.
