"I need your advice."

As expected, Jake was in the living room, looking up in surprise when Sally rushed through the door. She almost threw her bag in a corner but remembered at the last moment that her laptop was in there. So, after gracefully and carefully placing the bag on the floor, she hurried to the couch and sat down next to him.

Jake looked at her, waiting. She didn't know quite how to articulate her request and in her silence, he asked, "How was your night?"

Sally snorted and rolled her eyes. "We watched a movie that admittedly wasn't that bad, I ate Mila's chocolate after she fell asleep and we cuddled."

"Your words and your facial expression don't fit together," he commented drily. "That sounds good."

"It was good!" Sally groaned. She buried her face in her hands and leaned her head against Jake's shoulder. "That's the problem."

"I don't think I can follow you."

Sally felt how Jake grew concerned after a few more seconds of silence. He removed her hands from her face, placed his fingers on her chin and forced her to look him in the eyes.

"I'm having-" Sally shuddered "-I might have some... feelings."

A small smile started to develop on Jake's face but otherwise, his face remained inexpressive. "Romantic ones," she clarified begrudgingly. "For Mila."

"And?"

His lack of surprise made her feel stupid. How long had he known? Probably as long as she had deep down, the difference being the lack of denial on his part.

"I don't know what to do," Sally summed up her conflict.

"Mhm," Jake said. "You are having feelings for the woman you're sleeping with. Oh no! What a scandal! What could you possibly do?" His voice turned louder and more sarcastic with every word. Sally suspected he was enjoying this greatly.

"I'm not sure I want this."

Jake studied her for a long moment. "I want it," he said then. His words finally pulled Sally out of the mess of her thoughts and made her pay full attention.

"Being in love is such a wonderful thing. So many people want the exact thing you two have. Don't let this go to waste because you are scared. Mila is good for you, you can trust her."

As the words sunk in, Sally scooted away from him slightly and then placed her head on his lap, relishing in his warmth as he patted her back. For her, Jake embodied gentleness, unconditional acceptance and so much comfort. He made her relax and less afraid. And his words were often full of wisdom. At least it was wisdom for her while it probably was obvious, widespread information for others.

"I don't want to pressure you," Jake added. "If you're not ready, you're not ready. But please consider it carefully. The thing between you two, it doesn't come by every day. There is a difference between not wanting something and not wanting to want something. Who knows, you might like it if you give it a chance."

Sally thought about the night before. She thought of all the hours they had spent together. Frankly, she was very sure she would like it.

"She said she doesn't want to date me," Sally said quietly.

"You too said you don't want to date her. Maybe she just said it, maybe she changed her mind. We don't know."

Sally hummed. "Just out of curiosity." She turned her head so she could look up to him. His nose was funny from this perspective. "If I would try to date someone, what would I do?"
