Sally's day started out rather lovely.
After a wonderfully long sleep, she took her time getting up and stepping under the shower. Then, blithely and whilst whistling, she walked out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around her body, and ran into Mila.
She flinched heavily upon seeing someone in the hallway of her apartment when she had assumed to be alone and only just managed to keep the towel from falling down. "Oh bloody hell woman," she exclaimed. "What are you doing here?"
Mila's lips twitched in amusement. Her eyes shorty flickered over Sally's body before she stubbornly stared at the very top of her forehead.
Sally snickered. The surprise and initial shock were slowly subsiding and the satisfaction of Mila seemingly liking what she saw began to catch up. She stepped closer to the other woman and purred, "You can look, I don't mind."
Mila's eyes flickered down but soon, she cleared her throat, crossed her arms, and said, "Jake and I wanna try out this indoor climbing gym. He is just packing his things."
The fact that she wouldn't spend the day with Mila disappointed her more than it should. Their evening at the beach some days ago had been so beautiful, she wanted to repeat it. Another thing crossed her mind shortly after. "So, you and Jake are going? I didn't know you two were..." she trailed off.
"Well, we texted after the double date and we just started talking about it. We both like doing sports we decided to go together."
It was suddenly very hard not to scream out the lie, "I like sports too."
Thankfully, Jake kept her from exposing her neediness and paltriness by coming out of his room and joining them in the hallway. "Morning," he brightly said to Sally.
She muttered a "Hey". An unexplainable awkwardness surrounded them until Jake cleared his throat and asked, "Ready to go?"
"Yes." Mila nodded. Both bid their goodbyes to Sally and within seconds, she was all alone in the hallway with a towel around her body and her hair making little puddles on the floor, wondering why she felt so damn annoyed.
She banned that thought out of her head. After getting dressed and consuming a late breakfast and tea, she opened her laptop, deciding to get some work done. If it was about work, Sally had the ability to stay focused for a long time. She usually didn't need this because she conveniently also had the ability to work fast and efficiently.
That day though, she had none of those abilities. Still, he couldn't quite put a finger on what exactly it was that she was so displeased about.
When Mila and Jake returned in the afternoon, Sally was laying on the couch, a bowl of crisps on her lap and her favourite playlist of rock music blasting over the speakers. She quickly silenced Steven Tyler's voice, sat up, straightened her hair and put the bowl on the table in front of her before the two entered the living room, laughing and chatting as if they had experienced the time of their lives.
"You had fun?" she asked, forcing a smile on her face.
"Yes," Mila confirmed.
"Lovely," Sally commented drily.
Jake left the room to take a shower and Mila plopped to the couch next to her and grabbed a crisp. "What were you up to today?"
"Work, mostly."
"And why are you in such a sour mood?"
"I am not."
Slowly, Mila began to lean closer. Taken aback, Sally froze, her imagination running wild. The closer she came, the harder it became to stop her eyes from flickering to Mila's lips. A part of her wondering what would happen if she would just kiss her.
