Chapter 10

⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING (VIOLENCE) ⚠️

"Terrell!" I yell again. Daniel walks towards me.

"Stop!" I yell at him.

"You ruined my life," he snarls as he inches closer.

"This isn't my fault," I yell at him. I'm almost trying to convince myself of that fact. Terrell enters the room in panic.

"The police are on their way Daniel. Stop!" Terrell says sternly.

"Jaxin is hurt bad. He's in the truck, we need to get to the hospital," I say.

"You fucking her too?" Daniel looks at Terrell. Terrell clenches his jaw tightly.

"I loosened her up for you," Daniel laughs. Terrell's fists ball up and he begins to walk towards Daniel. I jump in front of Terrell. My hands press firmly on his chest.

"Stop, Terrell. Please stop, lets go," I beg. His eyes turn dark.

"She's a loud one," Daniel eggs him on.

"Terrell, he's doing this on purpose. Please, Jaxin needs help," I say. Terrell turns and grabs my arm and pulls me towards the door.

"I fucked her and I will fuck her again even after she begs me to stop!" Daniel screams. Terrell stops quickly and turns around.

Everything happens in slow motion at this point. Terrell reaches behind his back and pulls out a gun. My mouth drops and I reach to stop him but I'm too late. Terrell raises the gun and without hesitation, he pulls the trigger. I jump at the sound. The last thing I hear is the unforgettable sound of a body hitting the floor.

My ears begin to ring. Terrell puts the gun away and turns to me. I stare at Daniel's lifeless body as thick, red, pools out of his body. Daniel's eyes stare back at me wide open. A haunting site. The thick smell of iron burns my nostrils making me nauseous.

Terrell's hands grab my shoulders as he tries talking to me but I can't hear anything over the ringing in my ears. Terrell grips my arms firmly and pulls me out of the house and towards the truck. I'm in shock.

Jaxin tries to speak to me but I can't hear him. Jaxin helps pull me into the truck as Terrell rushes to get into the drivers seat and begins driving. I stare out the passenger side mirror. Police lights flash behind us and stop at the house. My blood runs cold when all I can think about is Daniel's lifeless eyes starring back at me. The white film that glossed over Daniel's blue eyes. The way his mouth hung open as he coughed up his own blood during his last few breathes.

Terrell and Jaxin finally gave up on trying to speak to me. I see the hospital sign and Terrell leaves me in the truck alone as he rushes Jaxin inside.

I rub my ears and the ringing finally stops. I stay still and a single tear falls from my eyes but that's all I can manage. I see Terrell running back to the truck and he gets in quickly. He sits facing me and grabs my hand. I let him. We sit in silence as I stare off into the distance. What the fuck am I supposed to say to him right now?

"Caroline? Please say something? Say something so I know you're okay," he says. I pull my hand away.

"Take me home," I say softly.

"Okay we can go home and talk about thi-"

"No. Take me to my dorm," I say with a lump in my throat. I can tell he wants to argue and refuse to leave me alone but after what just happened he knows he has to. He puts the truck in drive and drives cautiously to my dorm. He stops in front of the building. I rub my palms on my thighs. I open the door and get out.

"Caroline please," Terrell looks sincere. I finally make eye contact.

"Don't make me respond right now. I'll say something I'll regret," I swallow the lump in my throat as my eyes get watery. He nods slowly. I turn away and walk quickly to my front door. I pause before opening it and closing it behind me. I lock the deadbolt and the doorknob. I then go around and make sure that every window is locked tightly. Luckily there's only one door to get inside as my dorm is set up like an apartment. I immediately get in a hot steaming shower. I stay under the hot water until it runs cold. How can I move past this? What did I just witness? What's going to happen to Terrell?
