I wake up sweating. I open my eyes and Terrell is laying half way on top of me. His head lays on my chest with his arm wrapped around my waist tightly. It always amazes me how much body heat he has. I pull my leg out from under the covers to try and cool down my body somehow. It helps but not a lot. I bring my hand up and run my fingers through his black curls. My other hand finds his bicep that lays over my stomach. My fingers trace the two butterflies that are tattooed on his arm. As my fingers trail along his arm, I take a deep breathe.
This is the first night I have actually slept without seeing Daniel in my dreams. Or having any nightmares for that matter. I actually slept and it's refreshing. I'm not tired anymore.
His head moves slightly and I pull my hand away quickly.
"Don't stop," he groans with his eyes still closed. His deep raspy morning voice shoots vibrations through my chest. I let out a soft chuckle before I bring my hand back to his head and run my fingers through his hair. His grip tightens softly. Part of me is shocked he is still here. I thought he would've left before I woke up. Just then my phone rings. I glance over and it's my mother. I eyes widen. I haven't heard from her in a long time. I grab the phone as Terrell lifts his head off of me.
"Hello?" I question.
"Honey, I'm outside open up," she says. Fuck.
"You're here?" I question.
"Yes. Come open the door," she says annoyed. Oh fuck. Terrell gives me a worried glance. I hang up the phone.
"Put your clothes on now!" I whisper loudly as I jump out of bed and pull my sweat pants up my legs.
"My mother is here!" I panic.
"Oh shit," Terrell mumbles before quickly getting dressed. I finish before him.
"Stay here for a second," I say as I run to the front door. I unlock it and open the door.
"Oh honey!" She says happily. She holds her arms out and pulls me in for a hug. I fake a smile and pull away after a moment.
"You look awful honey. You've really let yourself go since college. When's the last time you've eaten?" She taps my stomach and walks further into the dorm past me. Typical of my mom.
"I'm doing great, thanks for asking. Listen, I have class. This really isn't a good time," I say in a hurry as she looks around the kitchen. I lied, I don't have class today.
"Which ones your room?" She asks.
"Oh! It's a mess right now. You can come back after class-" Just then Terrell steps out of my room, fully dressed and looking more presentable than myself. He puts his phone in his pocket right as my mom turns to see him.
"Sorry I had to finish a phone call in the room," he pretends and saves my ass. I widen my eyes at him.
"Oh, who is this Caroline? He's handsome?" My mom smiles.
"Hi, I'm Terrell," he holds out his hand and she shakes it. She turns back to me and her eyes widen as she looks down at my neck.
"Oh heavens! Caroline! You must cover those," she says. I bring my hand to cover my neck. Cover what?!
"It's about time someone found you attractive," my mom nudges my arm and laughs. Terrell eyes me.
"Listen mom. Hey, this really isn't a good time," I say.
"Oh alright. We need to go to lunch while I'm in town. I'll be in touch darling. And it was nice meeting you," we finish up the goodbyes and I finally get her out the door.
"I'm so sorry," I say.
"It's okay," Terrell laughs. I quickly run into the bathroom and look in the mirror. Terrell left large hickies scattered on my neck and chest. Terrell follows me into the bathroom. His finger brushes my hair out the way so he can see. A smirk forms on his face that I can see perfectly through the mirror.
"Sorry," he mumbles but he's clearly amused.
"I can't believe you gave me a hickie," I say as I run my fingers along the purple marks. He moves my hand and touches my neck.
"I think it's hot," he laughs. I smack his chest playfully and leave the bathroom and he follows.
I sigh and rub my head before plopping on the couch. He sits next to me.
"You've never really told me about your family," Terrell mentions. I turn my head.
"It's a long story," I sigh. It's a long and fucked up story.
"I've got time," he leans back on the couch.
"Okay," I agree. Without warning he lifts my legs and places them over his lap while my back leans against the arm of the couch. His hands rest on my thighs. His eyes meet mine as he gives me his full attention.
"Okay, umm- my parents are divorced. When that happened I didn't really have a stable place to live. My mom would bring random guys home in the middle of the night. It became unsafe so I moved in with my dad. He's abusive and an alcoholic, so I decided to go to college so I would have somewhere to live. Just a normal fucked up family," I explain. He draws circles over my thighs.
"I'm sorry," he says sympathetically.
"I'm not. It all forced me to grow up pretty quickly. I don't think I'd be as independent as I am now if I didn't have that life. In a way it's helped me," I say.
"It sounds fucked up, I know," I let out a soft chuckle.
"No, I get it," he says kindly. I watch his fingers as they make random shapes on my legs.
"Hey, I was thinking about it and we've never actually went on a date," he says. My eyes shoot up to meet his. This is random. Also very unexpected.
"Would like to go to dinner tonight?" He questions. My lips spread into a smile.
"What?" He laughs.
"Nothing. Yes I'd love to," I smile. I lean forward and kiss his lips. Me and Terrell. Going on a real date. Why am I so nervous about this?
