Chapter 23

I sit on the bed as Terrell enters the room and closes the door behind him. He walks over with a bullet proof vest.

"Terrell-"

"Don't argue. Take your shirt off," he says. I sigh and pull my shirt off as I stand. He places the vest on my chest and walks behind me to strap it on. He tugs at the vest straps and it pulls me back with it. He secures it. I grab my shirt again.

"You can't wear that," he says as he opens his closet. He pulls out one of his hoodies.

"You need something baggy so he won't be able to see the vest," Terrell explains as he hands me his hoodie. I nod and put it on. It's baggy but not too bad. I see him smile.

"What?" I question.

"Nothing," he says with a small laugh. I ignore his smirks. He opens a drawer and pulls out a small hand gun.

"You're taking this with you," Terrell says. I consider for a moment even though he didn't ask.

"Where am I gonna hide it?" I ask. He walks over and turns me around so my back is facing him. He lifts up the hoodie slightly and tugs at my jeans before I feel the cold tip of the metal against my skin. He turns me around.

"You won't even notice it," he says.

"Doubtful but I'll humor you," I say. He leans in and pecks my cheek.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asks.

"Yes Terrell," I say. He nods and breathes like he's the nervous one.

"Are you nervous?" I ask with amusement. I have never seen this man slightly nervous or anxious.

"Maybe a little," he mumbles. I let out a small laugh. I walk over and wrap my arms around his waist and lay my head on his chest. His arms wrap around me.

"Don't be. It'll work," I say. His hand rubs my back. Something doesn't sit right but I can't put my finger on it.

"Does he look like Daniel? I mean do you think I've seen him before and not realized he was his brother?" I ask.

"Maybe. I don't even know what he looks like. I don't even know his real name. He just goes by Daniel's last name, Grimshaw," he says. I would feel so stupid if I had seen him before and just not realized it. What if he's someone I know? Someone I went to school with?

"Time to load up," Terrell says. We leave the room and walk down the steps.

"Does anyone have any questions?" Terrell shouts for everyone to hear.

"Which car do you want me in?" Derek asks.

"Go with the snipers," Terrell says. Derek nods his head and walks towards the cars.

We load up in the cars and Terrell gives them a head start to get there before 9pm. When Terrell begins to drive, I get nervous. So nervous that my insides are turning.

"How close is it?" I ask.

"Not too far," Terrell answers. He grabs my hand and glances at me. He can tell I'm nervous.

"I'll be right next to you the whole time," he reassures. I nod.

"I know. I'm ready," I say but I can't tell if I'm telling him or trying to tell myself.

He pulls up to the dead part of town where only the street lamps glow. He parks the car across the street from a circle of buildings that look to be abandoned.

"He thinks it's just me and you. Don't look at the snipers. Don't let him know," Terrell says. I nod my head quickly. I can do this. 9pm hits and it's time. We get out of the car and look around for him. We wait by the car for a moment before Derek comes into view, waving us down.

"Why isn't he in position?" Terrell thinks out loud.

"Something must be wrong," I say. Terrell glances at me and thinks hard for a second. He begins to jog over to him and I follow.

"What happened?" Terrell asks. Suddenly Derek grabs me tightly, ripping me away from Terrell. He forces my back against his chest roughly. Suddenly I see Terrell's eyes widen as Derek pulls a gun out and presses the barrel against my temple.

"Derek!" Terrell yells.

"Terrell..." I mumble softly in concern.

"Derek what the fuck are you doing?" Terrell fumes. Derek laughs at the ignorance.

"It was an inside job," I say. Realization hits me like a rock. Terrell furrows his brows in confusion before he realizes the same thing. Derek is Daniel's brother.
