"Shouldn't we be at the hotel already?" Ella finally asked after they had been driving for more than an hour. "We are going back to the manor." Sal was short with her. "Why?" She snapped, before sitting up and leaning between the seats. She was not leaving the greatest discovery of her life!
"It is too dangerous out here now." Sal said it like that was just the answer to the end. "No! I am not afraid of a wolf!" "How about five or six of them?" Sal glared. "No." She said, but even to her own ears it did not sound strong enough.
"Well, you should be." Sal growled. "Why would I be? I have you two. And I saw the pistol on your side. You could have shot at them and they would have run." She raised an eyebrow and he gave her a double take.
"Sit back. We are going back to the manor. End of story." "NO!" She snapped again and his eyes widened. "I just found the most amazing creature that has never been exposed before and I want to uncover it." "It will wait." Sal almost growled.
"Excuse me? This is not something that will wait! This is a first of its kind. I am the first to start uncovering this!" She was in for the long fight. "You are not the first..." He started softly, then drifted off and now she was really getting hot.
"Not the first what?" She growled at him. "Never mind." "NO! What do you mean?" She unbuckled and moved all the way in between the seats to get close to his face. "What do you mean?" Ella glared from next to him as she sat on the center console.
"Are you crazy? Sit back and buckle up!" Sal yelled at her. "Not until you tell me what you are talking about." She crossed her arms in protest. "Ella, we can discuss this at home." He was fighting to control his temper, but she was having no part of it."
"No. Discuss it with me now." Ella growled and Torsten laughed next to her. "She is fiery. You better tell her." Torsten winked at her, causing a tiny bit of anger to diffuse. "It is not my place." Sal's voice was low, but it did not stop her. "Whose place is it then? Allan's? Take me to him. I walk to talk to him!" She snapped again.
"Calm your ass down and sit back before I have an accident and kill you." Sal gave her a look that stopped her immediately. His eyes were almost glowing in the darkness of the car and if she was not so hyped up, it might have worried her a little.
"Sal, do not scare the girl." Torsten gave his own growl, which was totally not a normal sound. "If I crash, she is going through the windshield. So, unless she knows how to fly, I would suggest she puts her ass back into the seat and buckles up." Sal's voice was loud as he glared at her but she just glared back for a few seconds before turning to Torten.
"Thank you for sticking up for me. At least someone cares." She leaned over and kissed Torsten's cheek. He made a humming sound and smiled, then without warning, Sal slammed on the gas, throwing her back into the seat.
"You are an asshole!" She kicked his seat when she recovered. "Good. Remember that when I tell you to behave. Now buckled up." He growled, his voice rumbling in the truck and it caused a shiver to run through her. Something was off with him, and she did not like it one bit.
"I am not doing this because you demanded, I just want to live another day to uncover that dragon. And with the way you drive, I am not taking any chances." She glared right back and for a few long seconds, they held each other's stare in the mirror, before he looked away and she smiled, happy she won this one.
No one said a word the rest of the drive back, and other than the quick phone call to Allan to tell him they were headed back, nothing more was explained. Ella knew there was something up with that man, but right now she did not care, she just wanted answers. Real answers. All the answers. And tonight, she planned to get them.
