"What do you want from me?" Ella growled as she fought against the ropes holding her in the back of the car. "You are a treasure." A creepy voice answered her. "I am a human not a treasure!" She continued to struggle.
"Aww, but you are. You see, we hear that a certain red dragon has taken a liking to you, so you are most valuable." The voice said as she tried to stretch to see him.
"He hates me." "I think otherwise. We have watched him from the woods for days. He watches you when you sneak out all alone to the garden. He sits in the shadows and pines for you." The guy gave a sick laugh as he turned to look at her.
"What does he have to do with you?" Ella hated being weak. "There is a long history of violence between his kind and my own. He killed the mate of an alpha, and for that, his hide is worth more than money. Although being a royal dragon, his hide will fetch a pretty penny after the fact, so I will be selling that when I have finished with him. I will be both rich and powerful when I take the place of head alpha." The strange man with dark eyes said as he leaned over the seat.
"He is not going to come after me." Ella laid her head back against the cool leather of the seat. Her head hurt, her body ached, and she was feeling queasy. What had they done to her? She did a mental check from her toes to her head, and other than the ropes, and the headache, she felt intact.
"He will come." The man said. "You will be disappointed then." She rolled her eyes and tried to straighten out her body, but the ropes were tight, and she tried not to whimper as she wiggled her fingers. How long was she out? Too long by the feeling of numbness in her side.
"Any chance you could loosen these ropes a bit? They are cutting off circulation to my hands." "No." The man snarled. "It is not like I am going anywhere. I am locked in the back of the car, that is moving." "And I heard what you did to David last week in the parking lot. We will not be taking chances.
"David? Oh, the mutt that attacked us?" She laughed at the vision of him being knocked back. He was lucky he walked away from that.
"Fine. Where are we going then?" Ella smiled. "How about you keep quiet." The creep snarled again. "You have no idea who I am, do you?" She moved to her back to relieve some pressure from her side.
"Ella, plaything to the red dragon." "Plaything? Seriously? I am a researcher with three college degrees and numerous awards to my name. I am not a plaything. I am here to do a job, which is research." She groaned.
"Those degrees are not going to help you out here." He reached over the seat and ran a nail down her arm, causing a line of blood to appear. He rubbed his finger over it, bringing it to his mouth, and sucking off the blood in an obscene way. "Delicious." He grinned.
"If you are trying to scare me, it is not working. Please. I went head to head with a 30-foot-tall dragon, your puny self is not going to scare me." Ella rolled her eyes. "You best watch that mouth of yours Ella dear, or you might not like what it looks like after I am done."
"Look, Fido, or whatever your name is, I have had a shitty week and I am in no mood to deal with your wet dog smelling ass. You can choose to let me out now, or I will make sure to break your freaking neck myself." She growled, causing the driver to laugh.
"What the hell are you laughing at?" Fido slapped the driver and a swearing match started. What idiots. While they were arguing, she slipped her arms under her legs and pulled them up in front of her, relieving the pressure on her spine. When she sat up, the driver met her eyes in the mirror, before swerving and cussing.
"What the hell! Are you trying to kill me?" Ella gasped as she grabbed hold of the back of the seat. "What the...how..." Fido turned in his seat, surprised at her sitting up. "What are you doing?" He asked. "Sitting up. I told you the ropes were hurting my hands. Now, I am good." She held up her roped hands and wiggled her fingers.
