They had made it to the middle of the lawn when Sal heard the familiar sound of wings in the distance. He prayed that Ragnar would be lucid enough to understand what was going on. He was not going to let Ella get hurt. If he had to, he would break his promise to Allan and protect her.

"Is that him?" Ella's soft whisper came from beside Sal. It was dark, and although he could see fine, he knew she could not. They were far enough from the house but not close enough to Leif's place, so there was no light in the middle. It was a perfect night for being out, but he needed to stay with Ella. As it was, he was going to get his ass chewed for this.

Her hand tightened around his, and it felt so good in his, but he knew he could not feel anything for her, not until Ragnar was done with her. His heart ached at the thought of his friend hurting her, but again, there was nothing that could be done. Ragnar's wellbeing was more important, and if this worked, he would live.

His thoughts were interrupted as the wind from the powerful wings hit them and Ella turned to him, burying her face into his chest. He instinctively wrapped his arms around her, turning them to shield her from the debris.

Ragnar landed about 20 yards away and before Sal could say anything, Ella had let him go and was walking towards Ragnar. "Ella." He warned, but she kept walking toward the dragon, and all he could do was watch, and hope for her safety.

"Ragnar?" Ella said softly as she approached him. Sal watched as she walked right up to Ragnar, looking up his body to his face. "Wow." She smiled and Sal could feel her excitement, even this far away.

"Hello Ragnar." She chirped but he just stood staring down at her. His massive size dwarfing her, but she showed no fear as she stood there. She was so brave.

"Not going to say hello back?" Ella asked. "You were to visit tomorrow." Ragnar's voice thundered through the night. "Well, you came to my window, so I thought maybe you wanted to see me tonight." She put her hands on her hips in that sassy way she did, making Sal smile.

"Was not me." Ragnar huffed. "Was too. Who else could it have been?" "Many other dragons." He stood there watching her. "Nope, I know I was you. I could tell." She laughed and Ragnar stepped back.

"Are you afraid of me?" She asked softer and Sal's chest tightened in disbelief. "No. A tiny human you are." "She is mighty though. Watch yourself Ragnar." Sal laughed. "She is but a speck on the ground. I could squash her like a bug." Ragnar lifted his leg and Sal started forward, but Ella did not even flinch and Ragnar tilted his head to look at her.

"Yeah, and I could stab you right here between these toes where the scales are not covering and it might not kill you, but it would hurt like hell. And I doubt anyone would pull it out for you right away." She was giving him full on sass and Sal loved every minute of watching it.

"Now, why don't you quit your empty threats and come down here so I can see those beautiful eyes for myself." Ella told Ragnar and Sal watched as he tilted his head the other way and then huffed. Then to Sal's surprise, Ragnar lowered his head and looked at her, letting her get closer.

"Can I touch you?" Ella asked. "No." Ragnar said sharply. "Please." "No." "Come on. It is not every day I get to see such a majestic creature in all his glory standing in front of me. Let me at least touch your leg." "Is she always this persistent?" Ragnar looked towards Sal. "Yes." Sal found himself laughing loudly.

Sal was completely in awe of her as she looked over Ragnar. Ella was not scared in the slightest, and that just made him adore her a little more.

"Please can I just feel your scales?" Ella looked up into his amazing eye. "Your eyes are like burning amber." She continued, not letting him answer as she reached out and he moved back.
