And the Dragon slept. Ella felt so amazing that she put a dragon to sleep with just a rub down. It had probably been so long since someone had touched him. The thought made her sad, but his content grumble made her smile proudly.
Ella started to go back to the house, but she did not want to leave him. He was vulnerable out here in the open, and it was sweet. So she sat back on the grass and took out the new book she wanted to start reading.
This would be the perfect time. It was quiet, except for Ragnar's small snores, and it was warm and sunny today. Well, it was sunny, but she was in the shade of a dragon's shadow, which made it a little cooler. God, what she would give to share this information with Todd. He would probably have a heart attack and die on the spot.
Ella had only read a few pages when she heard Ragnar whisper, "Human." "I am still here." She said and he tilted his head, exposing his neck, but did not open his eyes. "Stay." He whispered again and she crawled over to him. "I am." She touched his neck and he hummed. "I am right here." She wondered if he was dreaming, and she hoped if he was, that it was a good dream.
She started to move away, but his large hand came out and pulled her into his chest, holding her close. "Human." He said again with a rumble, making her laugh. "Ok, I will stay" She settled into the bend of his arm and held up her book to continue reading, except she didn't get very far when the warmth of his body invaded hers, and she too drifted off to an afternoon nap.
"Don't you dare wake them." Ella heard Thyra's voice and started to stir, but a big paw pulled her in closer. "I would not dare. He would take my head off." Sal. She knew that voice. "When did all this happen?" Thyra questioned. "I have no idea. I was going to check on him and found them here." Sal whispered.
"Do you think it is working?" Thyra giggled. "Judge for yourself, but yeah, if I had to guess, I think it is." "Oh Sal, this is wonderful. Who would have thought a human could save him." "Ten minutes after I met her, I knew she could." Ella heard humor in Sal's voice and almost smiled but kept her composure.
"You should have seen them in the forest last night. He looked like his old self, flying around with the guys, and clearly, he was trying to impress her, just like the Ragnar I know. Always a ladies man." Sal chuckled.
"He looks different." Thyra stepped closer. "I thought that too, but I am afraid to say anything. He is completely against her. Or well, he was. She might have changed his mind already by the looks of this."
"Come on, we should go tell Allan." Thyra laughed again. "Hold on." She heard Sal rustling with something and then they quietly walked off. Ella relaxed back into Ragnar's hold and felt his chest rumble.
Ella wondered what all that meant. How was she saving him already? And a ladies man? Did that mean he was a big flirt by nature? She had so many more questions now, and not enough answers. She was just going to have to start asking Sal some too. She knew he would help her.
"Tiny human, are you awake?" Ragnar's chest rumbled with his words. "I am now." She smiled as she stretched. "Did you nap well?" He seemed unsure of his words. "I did. You are so warm and cuddly." "Not cuddly. I am a big strong dragon." He growled out. "And you cuddle like a big soft teddy bear." She giggled as he huffed, but he did not push her away.
"I think we need some lunch, then we can pick up where we left off." Ella yawned. "Yes. Deer or cow?" He moved his arm back, letting her up as he looked down at her. "I was thinking more like a sandwich." She brushed off her backside and heard that deep rumble from his chest.
When she turned around, he was looking at her, head tilted, and there was a brightness to his eyes. "What are you looking at?" She crossed her arms and he huffed. "That you look like a tasty snack." "I probably am." She picked up her backpack and put it on her shoulders.
