Summer...

I stood right next to Newt in the council hall. Everyone was piled inside with the exception of Jeff who stayed in the med-hut with Alby. Clint is here as a Keeper and he is standing at the front with us behind the wooden barricade. Winter opted to stay with the rest of the Gladers not feeling like being upfront so she was sitting down with the others and we all had Thomas sitting in the hot seat. Gally was the one who was too desperate to talk first and so we let him.

"Things are changing. There's no denying that." Gally started talking to the Gladers at first. I was leaning against Newt who had his arms around me, keeping me close. He really wasn't joking when he said I wasn't leaving his sight. "First, Ben gets stung in broad daylight. And then Alby. And now our Greenie, here, has taken it upon himself...to go into the maze. Which is a clear violation of our rules here." I rolled my eyes at how uptight Gally was.

"I didn't see you trying to help us get out of that maze. All you did was scream for us to abandon Alby, which should also be considered as a violation of our rules because we should always have each other's backs." I shot back. I started a wave of agreements through the room.

"You really are going hard today eh?" Newt whispered in my ear, sending shivers down my spins as his hot breath tickled the back of my exposed neck.

"I've spent a night in a shucking maze, I need to let some steam out," I whispered back. Newt placed a soft kiss on the side of my head while Gally turned to me.

"I am not a Runner. It is against the rules to go out there and you know it. The Greenie simply broke the rules!"

"Yeah...but he saved Alby's life." Fry pointed out getting a yeah sound from Winter who was cheering on us from the bleachers. She is enjoying this like a comedy show.

"Did he?" Gally asked skeptically. "For 3 years, we have coexisted with these things. And now, you've killed one of them. Who knows what that could mean for us." Gally asked looking around to see who he had implanted the seed of doubt into.

"Oh, let me at him," I grumbled under my breath and went to march at Gally but Newt held me back.

"What do you suggest we do?" Newt asked, holding me against his chest.

"He has to be punished," Gally said matter of factly. This started a loud chorus of disagreements to erupt through the whole council room.

"Minho. You and Summer were there with him. What do you think?" Newt asked. All eyes turned to Minho. He looked over at me and I nodded telling him that we are both thinking about the same thing.

"I think... in all the time we've been here... no one has ever killed a Griever before." Minho took a pause to take a breath making the situation a bit dramatic. "When I turned tail and ran..." He pointed at Thomas. "This dumb shank stayed behind to help Summer with Alby. And he saved Summer from the Griever. If it weren't for him she wouldn't be standing here now." Minho nodded towards me which caused many heads to turn my direction. Newt's grip around me tightened protectively. "Look, I don't know if he's brave or stupid."

"But whatever it is, we need more of it," I added. Minho and I nodded at each other.

"I say we make him a runner." Newt moved forward a bit and I turned my head to look at him. He looked back at me in question, asking if we were serious about it.

"And I agree," I confirmed and Newt smirked satisfied. He obviously liked the idea.

"A Runner? What? Let's not jump the gun, here you two." Frypan said over the disagreements or agreements that were coming from the crowd.
