I tried to get some sleep to help me focus. I don't like sleeping for too long because it slows down my thinking, but I felt if I didn't I would go insane before I ever figured out where Ryan was.
That was when my first hint came.
I lucid dream, almost every single night. My power allows me to project my dreams into reality, even when I don't want to.
There was a cold chill that brisked across my face. I opened my eyes and I was laying on matted carpet. The room smelled of mildew. I knew I was dreaming, but I still felt uneasy and weak.
I lifted myself off the ground and looked in three directions. Both ways beside me led me down a dimly lit hallway with a red exit sign on each end. Before me was an endless hallway that fizzled into inky darkness.
I realized this was some sort of trap. I chose to walk down the darkened hall.
This was when I started to lose control of the dream.
I could see static around the corners of my eyes, like a television. It became more noticeable the longer I walked. I tried to stop myself but I kept walking deeper into the hall. Then, the static overwhelmed my vision. I came upon a door, barely visible from the red exit sign.
I reached forward for the doorknob.
I then heard a blood-curdling screech behind me.
Before my hand could turn the knob, I whirled around and faced another endlessly dark hallway. It wasn't the same as I saw it before. There was no light except a single lightbulb dangling from the ceiling.
My stomach twisted with anxiety. I couldn't control myself. I felt like I was in a trance, marching towards the light.
I grabbed the chain and pulled it, and the light flickered on.
I was met face to face with a horrifying image of Ryan's face getting torn off by a large, wrinkly faced creature.
His eyes were dangling from their sockets and long, bloody teeth marks were in each of his cheeks. His nose was mangled beyond recognition
The creature stood up and began to chase after me. I tried to get away, but I was met with the door. I shook the handle frantically and all of the sudden my muscles tensed up. The last thing I heard was the monster screeching in my ear.
Then I woke up.

I sat up in bed, clutching my chest, my forehead covered in cold sweat. My throat was dry and my stomach still felt tight.
Sara felt my fear and was already awake.
"Hey, what happened?" she asked, "I felt negative energy from your sleep."
"I-I-I don't know." I sputtered, "I just saw Ryan...he was being eaten alive...I was helpless to stop him."
Sara grabbed my shoulders and squeezed them tight.
"Hey, it's okay, it's alright. Just let it out." she eased.
I leaned back against the headboard.
"I was in this weird room. It looked like a storage room, with winding hallways. Like an old abandoned doctors office. There were exit signs down every path but no matter how far I walked I couldn't reach them. Then, I lost control. My dream self walked towards a lightbulb and when I turned it on, I saw him." I recalled, the dream still fresh in my memory. I remembered every single gory detail. It wouldn't fade. The vision of Ryan's mangled face stayed in my vision.
Sara held up a hand, "Wait. We're the walls yellow?" she asked.
"Kind of, more of a mildew color." I responded.
"Shit..." she muttered, "Shit!" she repeated in a louder voice.
She leapt out of bed and had her hands over her mouth.
"What? What's wrong?" I asked worriedly.
"Ryan...he's not on Earth anymore." she said, "he's been taken to the backrooms."
