Lin's heart was beating so fast she felt like it might explode, she felt an overwhelming amount of love for this man next to her. She laughed at his remark and swatted him playfully, then began opening the food so they could eat.
They ate and laughed together, and time seemed to stand still as the sun began to set over the water giving the sky a brilliant light show. The entire time they sat there Tenzin couldn't keep his eyes off of Lin, she enchanted him in the glow of the sunset.
As they had finished eating and laughing Lin stood up and shyly began taking her dress off leaving only her undergarments on. Tenzin sat straight up watching her every move, wondering what she meant to do, and admiring the newly exposed skin.
She smiled sheepishly at him and said, "I thought we could go swimming, I haven't been in so long." She started walking into the water, and Tenzin sprang up and had his cloak and shirt of immediately and ran after her. He caught up to her and grabbed her hand, walking deeper and deeper into the cool water together.
Suddenly ruining the serenity of them walking hand in hand, Lin splashed a huge spray of water on Tenzin and began swimming away quickly, laughing as she went. Tenzin wiped his face, a huge grin spreading over his face as he started chasing her and splashing her. It was just like when they were kids, swimming, and have splash wars on the beach. They played around in the water until neither of them could breathe from laughing so much. They headed back to the beach where Tenzin air bended them dry before they got dressed and wrapped up in towels for warmth.
The sky was now ink black with the stars pricking through, and Republic City's lights spread colorfully on the water. They both collapsed on the blanket together, holding one another as a cool breeze blew by them.
Lin released him and laid down on the blanket looking up at the stars, thoughts racing through her mind. Tenzin laid down next to her on his side admiring her. Lin looked over at him, a little embarrassed he was observing her, but then she turned on her side to face him. She looked him in the eyes, her eyes sparkling under the night sky and she whispered barely audible, "I love you Tenzin.", she said very seriously.
Tenzin looked at her and said, "And I love you, Lin." He wrapped his arms around her, kissing her once and then pulling her close. Lin tucked her head into her usual spot on his neck and gently began kissing his neck. He shivered at Lin's soft lips on his neck and tightened his hold around her waist, trailing one hand up and down her spine.
Lin pulled away from his neck with a soft gasp for air and brought her lips close to Tenzin's ear and whispered in a soft breathy voice, "Tenzin? Will you marry me?"
Tenzin pulled back to look at her in the eyes searching them. He could feel her heart racing against his chest, and she was shivering nervously looking at him earnestly. He teared up and kissed her passionately, tangling his long fingers in her soft hair. Lin had tears streaming down her face as she kissed him back passionately, she couldn't remember the last time she was this happy. She pulled out of their kiss gasping for air, then she buried her face in his neck crying.
Tenzin clung to her tightly as Lin's tears soaked his shoulder. He lightly stroked her hair asking, "Lin what's wrong? Why are you crying? That meant yes by the way.", he said concerned of the sniffling woman cuddled in his arms. She finally sat up wiping her tears saying, "Tenzin, I'm just so happy. I made myself so miserable for years, I was so angry at you and at myself, and then I let that go and I was content with my life. Now here in your arms, I not only feel content I honestly am the happiest I've been in a long time.", she smiled weakly at him. They hugged again tightly.
