24. Chapter: I would never let you die!

Caitlin's pov,

"You can't do that, please! Leave him."

I felt so helpless.

"No worries I can't imagine that he lets such a pretty woman die. That wouln't be much of a hero, would it now?"

"I am not worried about me", I answered frustrated to Cicadas comment.

"Just don't kill him, it won't help you"
I was  devastated. I knew Barry would come. He would loose his speed and Cicada would kill him. Barry would never ever let anyone die. he'd rather give his life.
And if he would die today, there would be so many unspoken things. I would never have a chance to..."

"I am here"

Barrys voice interrupted my thoughts.

"Barry no, please go!" I cried from the back.

"Cait, it's okay" he said with a soft voice.

"Well there he is! How about you stop talking and start dying" Cicada said

The tears just started rolling down my face now.

"Wait!" Barry said.

"Before you do anything you have to let Caitlin out of the cage! And I want to say good by to her"

"Don't play with me flash. Just one move and you are dead. I make the rules. But sure say your last words, it's not gonna save anybody."

Cicada laughed artifically.

"You won't make anymore steps towards her though. No tricks!"  he added.

I looked up, crying. I did not understand how Cicada had become so cruel.

"Barry, you don't have to do that. Now it's your last chance, go, just leave" I said.

"I would never let you die Cait!" He said with a broken voice.

I sobbed.

"You know when I texted you earlier. I meant what I said. I am so sorry for everything and never did I regret my actions more than today. I could have been there. It's my fault..."

"...No it's not..."

"Caity! I wan't you to also know, that what I did, I meant that too and I would do it again... I lo..."

"Okay that's enough now! Good Bye Flash!

Cicada threw his dagger.

"Nooooooooooo!"

Barry's pov

All I heard was Caitlins agonizing cry, which took forever since I was moving in speed. It hurt me to put her in so much pain and not to be able to tell her, that there was a plan. On the other hand Ciscos hologram was apparently pretty convincing. Until now. It worked, I got my speed back.

Cicadas cry was almost louder than Cait's when he saw, that the dagger went through me. Perfectly timed I reached the room when the dagger was already "far" enough away. My plan was to reach Cicada from the side so the dagger would not stab me from the back.
I had four more steps when loosing my speed showed me that the dagger was on it's way back.
Then everything happened really fast, even without my speed.

Cicada was really in rage. He got his dagger back before I could give him the serum. There were just two steps left.

"Now you will watch your little girlfriend die!" he said and aimed for Cait.

"No!" I yelled
taking one more step to the right to safe Cait from the dagger. Just in time, I got in the way between Cait and Cicada. I felt a deep pain in my shoulders where the dagger hit me.
"No, I am not giving up now!" was the only thing I thought even the pain was huge. And with the last bit of power I made a jump forward and injected Cicada the serum.

"BARRY!" Caitlin yelled.

"I... I am okay!" I said while sinking on the ground. It hurt a lot but I knew I was gonna be okay.

"Cisco...you " I tried to speak into the headset, but talking was not easy.

"We're already here" I heard his voice somewhere.

Than somebody kneeled next to me.

"Just breath" Iris said.

I took a few deep breaths into the pain. I already felt a bit better. I sat up. Joe had taken Cicada, to make sure he won't escape. Cisco was trying to open Caits cage. I looked at her and tried to smile.
She smiled back giving me this thankfull look. But her smile was a bit sad or maybe just exhausted. Of course it was a long day for everybody.

"I have something to cover your wound if we get that dagger out" Iris said now.

"I will do it" I answered and in the same moment I clenched my teeth and pulled the dagger out of my shoulder. I suppressed to scream. It hurt but, it was kinda like removing a band-aid.

"Now it's better" I said gasping. I took another deep breath.

Iris put a provisionally bandage around my shoulder, while Cisco was still working on the cage.

"Almost done" he said every third second.

"Are you sure you are okay?" Joe asked

"Yes,  of course" I said "I am a speedster I heal fast, forgotten?"

"You might be a speedster Barry, but with a wound caused by this dagger even you will take a while till you are healed. But thanks for taking that risk for me"

I turned my head around. Cisco had  opened the cage succesful.

"Better having a little wound than letting you die"

Caitlin gave me a hand to help me get up.

"I'm just so..." She was almost crying again.

I hugged her.

"It's okay Caity, everything is okay now"
And even my shoulder hurt. It felt so good to have her in my arms."

"Alright I am glad, everything went well. I will take this guy to iron heights now before he is coming back to his senses. I like him better quiet"

I hadn't even noticed, that the serum had made him a little dizzy. Not unconscious but it had put him into kind of a trance. Nice side effect.

"Yes, see you later Joe"

"Let's get out of here, it's kinda creepy"
Cisco said, and we all followed him back to the van.

I am only planning one more chapter (maybe in two parts I don't know yet) before this story will come to an end. But I was thinking to eventually write a bonus chapter if there would be enough people, that would like to read one. I will let you vote next time :)
