Now, who was that?

That was the question that continuously ran through my mind.

The skilled, loud, and cute man that had ruined my perfect infiltration tonight still lingered on my mind. The only person I've seen with a power like that was Dinah and she hasn't been fighting for a long time. And I've never heard of a relative with similar powers, so who is this guy?

Bruce would know. But, I'm not really in the mood for having a chat with good ole Bats at the moment. Dick or Tim might know, but they're probably busy.

Guess I gotta do this the old fashioned way.

I stepped inside my apartment and kicked the door shut, then pulled my mask off, setting it on the entryway table. I walked into my messy kitchen and grabbed a beer out of the fridge, before wandering into the living room and sitting down on the couch.

I flicked on the tv as I twisted the cap of my beer bottle. I brought it to my lips as I clicked through the channels.

No matter how hard I tried to focus on the tv my mind kept wandering back to the man who ruined my mission.

"I'm sure if he's important...I'll be seeing...him again...soon..."

My eyelids felt heavy as I ran through my thoughts. I sighed quietly, then shifted on the couch to lay down. It didn't take long at all for me to fall asleep.

Two Days Later...

I slugged a punk in the jaw, sending him reeling to the side, then I brought my knee back and kicked him in the chest. He crashed against the brick wall, then fell to the ground. I swung my other hand around and smacked another thug with my pistol, then kneed him in the stomach.

I turned on the last man to see him scrambling up the fire escape.

"Hey!" I shouted. "Get back here!"

I jumped up after him and began to climb the stairs. I watched the man disappear over the top of the roof. As I approached the top I heard a thump and I looked to see the thug unconscious on the ground. I looked up to see the man from a few days earlier standing above him.

"You again," I said.

"Right back at ya," he said.

"I don't really have time for this tonight," I said. "Can we skip the kicking and screaming?"

"That depends," he said. "Are you gonna throw that shuriken you're reaching for?"

I froze as the words left his mouth, causing him to chuckle a little.

"I'm not stupid, Hood," he said.

I nodded slowly, then dropped my arm away from
my belt.

"What do I call you?" I said.

"Black Canary," he said blatantly.

"For whatever reason, I remember Black Canary being more feminine..."

"People change. Time goes on," he said sarcastically.

I shrugged, "Well, Canary. You must be stupider than you think, because I wasn't reaching for a shuriken."

As I spoke I dropped the pellet in my hand and smoke rapidly spread across the rooftop. I shot backwards and dropped off the edge of the roof. Running into the night.

"I knew he was gonna show up again," I muttered.

Four Days Later...

"Where is he!" I snapped, holding the gun a little tighter against the thug's jaw.
