I sighed and looked up at the large, modern building.

Is this a good idea?

I stepped inside and took the stairs to the familiar floor, then walked down the hall until I was standing at the correct door.

I took a shaky breath, then sighed and stepped inside. There were several others already inside, five to be exact.

Dani's producer, Addison. His sound artist, James. His sound editor, Judy. And his two back up vocalists, Jamie and Izzie.

"Uh...hello?" Addison said.

"Hi," I replied. "I'm a friend of Dani's and...I'm in town for the holidays. I was hoping to swing by and surprise him."

"Oh, hey!" Jamie said. "I've seen you around, you two are around each other all the time! It's been a bit."

I nodded.

"Well, feel free to wait," Addison said.

"Someone here?" Dani said from the other side of the one way glass.

Addison met my gaze and I made a pleading face and mouthed 'surprise'.

"No, just an intern with my coffee," she said.

"Gotcha," Dani replied. "Everything set for warm-ups and tuning?"

"Uh, yeah," James said. "I think so. Let's get started. Judy what is your game plan?"

"Let's start with the increasing Bad Romance riff, so I can tune the speakers," she said. "Go ahead and get started whenever you're ready."

I looked up to the corner of the room where a huge speaker hung, where Dani's voice came from.

"That's a...big speaker," I said.

"It's the only one we can use without him blowing it out," James said. "That's on the lowest volume."

Dani started singing in the lower register, completing a riff of vocalization before moving onto lyrics.

"Caught in a bad romance..." he sang, then restarted the entire riff on a higher note.

Every time he increased it left me wanting to hear more.

A few minutes later goosebumps covered my skin as he reached a high note.

"Caught in a bad romance..." he sang, his voice spiking on 'bad'.

I stared in awe, then let my composure fall as he stopped and took a drink.

"What that's it? Tell him to keep going, I gotta hear the next note," I said.

"Trust me, kid," Addison said. "You don't wanna hear the next note.

"What? Why?"

I watched as Judy rolled her chair back and pushed open a door to the closet. Littered around the floor were broken speakers.

"Oh," I said.

"Yeah, this entire booth was enhanced specifically for Dani's voice," Judy said. "Take a look at the glass."

I took a step forward and scanned it, it was insanely thick.

"Holy shit, how thick is that glass?" I said.

She chuckled a little bit.

"Seven inches," she said. "He shattered three through six. This one's been holding out."

"Wow."

"Yeah. Alright, Dani, I think that's all I need. James?"

"Let's start with Please Come Home For Christmas," he said.
