Jason Todd P.O.V

"Bruce, you've gotta help me, please," I begged.

"You've been nothing but another thug in this city, Jason. I don't need you going around and terrorizing Gotham even more. You need to be held accountable. That means no more killing. Which means I can't give you that location."

"Bruce," I said. "I really care about him. I've only known him for a little under a month and he's already wormed his way into my every thought. And now it's my fault that he's taken and I need to help him. Please, Bruce...help me help him."

Bruce stared at me a moment longer, mulling over the thought.

"If I hear that even one single man was killed, it's on your head," he said slowly.

"I'll use nothing but concussion shots," I said, holding up my right hand like a boy scout.

"I'm sending the location to the interface in your helmet. Be careful, Jason...and remember what you promised me here."

I nodded and stood up, quickly leaving the bat cave and making my way back into the city on my bike.

A half an hour later I stopped across the street from a warehouse and snuck around to the back, climbing up some scaffolding onto the roof. I slipped open one of the windows and dropped down into the rafters.

I scanned the large warehouse beneath me to see several men wandering around with an assortment of weapons. There were metal walkways going back and forth above the main floor and on the back wall a long window looked in on an office.

Where are you...?

I scanned the warehouse again and my eyes landed on a figure against the side wall, mostly surrounded by large storage crates. It was Dani. Beaten, bloody, tired, and damaged...but Dani. I smiled a little and began to make my way towards him through the rafters. When the coast was clear I dropped down next to him, causing him to jump.

His eyes widened and he mumbled something around the gag that was in his mouth. I pulled off my helmet momentarily and smiled at him. I went to remove the gag to which he licked his dry lips.

"Jason," he said relieved.

His eye was blue and swollen, concealing most of his vision. His lips were split and bloody as well as his temple. He seemed to be struggling to stay awake.

"I'm here," I said, going for the chains that were holding him to the wall. My eyes examined the dampener around his neck as I did so.

"I don't think you're supposed to be here," a deep voice said.

"Shit," I cursed, slipping my helmet back on.

I whirled on the large man, standing at the entrance of the circle of crates. He was holding a large bat.

"You should probably run away while you can, big guy," I said.

"That's not what I'm getting paid to do," he muttered.

"I don't think you're getting paid to get your ass kicked either."

He chuckled slightly and took a step forward to which I whipped out my pistol and landed a concussive shot right in his forehead. It knocked him unconscious.

I jogged out of the crate circle as the other men began to turn their attention on me.

Rage about what they did to Dani fueled my fight and allowed me to easily tear through their ranks, picking them apart.

"That all you got!" I shouted to those who were still standing or running away.

"No, but I got this," a familiar voice said.

I turned around slowly to see Sionis walking backwards with Dani in front of him, an arm around his neck and a gun pressed to his temple.

"Take another step and his brain gets filled with lead," Sionis threatened.

I froze in place and held my pistols in the air loosely, surrendering.

"Good boy," he said. "Now, set them on the ground, and kick them away."

I followed his orders.

"On your knees," he said to Dani who obliged. "You as well."

I followed suit. He positioned us next to each other, about ten feet between us, then he stood at the point of the triangle.

"And to think, I have both my targets in one place, that easily," he said. "Take that stupid mask off, boy. I want to see your face when I kill him."

I sighed internally and removed the mask, then set it in front of me.

"Hmm," he said. "Such a young man. I never expected it. No matter, you'll endure the pain just as well as any other."

I tensed as the gun clicked and he leveled it at Dani. My mind raced to figure out a solution.

"You know," Dani muttered out through his bruised and split lips. "You can spend all the money you want...invest in all the research you want...but you'll never figure it out completely. These damn dampeners, they only do just that...dampen."

I caught Dani's eye as he spoke and I knew to prepare myself for whatever he was going to do.

"So if these things only dampen my powers, that would mean that some of them are still there, right?"

"Oh, please," Sionis chuckled. "Don't flatter yourself. We both know that that dampener has left you weak. You're dying tonight...and there's no talking your way out of it."

"Here's the thing, Roman," Dani said. "You have no idea how powerful I can really be..."

I watched as the device around his neck flickered with energy. My hands shot from the back of my head to my ears as Dani opened his mouth and let out a ground-shaking, ear-splitting scream, throwing Sionis across the room. The windows thirty feet above us shattered and glass rained around us. Loose objects rattled and toppled over. Sionis smacked against the stone wall with a crack, then he slumped to the ground.

I lowered my hands and laughed a little at the situation, then stood up, as did Dani.

"I can't believe you came," he said as I started to quickly walk over to him. "I mean, I figured you'd come eventually. But, I didn't know you'd be so fast. I kept waiting for y-"

I cut him off as I grabbed his face with my hands, leaned down slightly, and pressed my lips tightly against his.

It took a moment for him to relax, but he eventually melted into my arms like putty and hummed in pleasure against my lips. I pulled away to catch my breath and leaned my forehead against his. We both opened our eyes and looked at each other.

"I'm never letting you out of my sight again," I said.

He laughed a little, then wrapped his arms around my neck and stood on his tiptoes to kiss me again.

I leaned against the back of the couch, with Dani right in front of me. I ran my fingers through his thick, brown hair as we watched a cheesy action movie.

"Did you know you could do that?" I said suddenly. "Break through the dampener?"

"Not at first," he said. "But as my emotions grew, I knew my Cry was more than just a science that they could take away. I knew that it was a part of me, a part of me they couldn't take away. And, well...it worked."

"I guess gambling pays off every now and then," I said.

He chuckled from in front of me and snuggled a little closer to my chest. For once in my life nothing was making me happier than having him this close to me...but nothing else made me more afraid at the same time.

And that was scarier than any villain we could ever face.
