Ch. 22

Dani P.O.V

I followed after Jason as he stomped away from the kitchen towards the living room. He clearly didn't like what I had to say, but it was true whether he liked to hear it or not.

"All I'm saying is," I restated. "You might have more in common with her than you think."

"She's a fucking psychopath, Dani! I'm glad to know you think so highly of me," he replied.

"That's not what I mean, Jay," I sighed. "You know that. I'm trying to say that you were both victimized by Joker. He mentally and physically tortured you both. He destroyed both of you. He was the turning point in both of your lives, which is why she is the way she is. And why you are the way you are. You might be able to understand her better than most."

He sighed angrily and glared at me across the room.

"You know I'm right," I said as I started to walk over to him.

He shook his head stubbornly. I smiled and nodded with a raised eyebrow. He shook his head again.

I stopped walking just in front of him and wrapped my arms around his shoulders. I pushed myself onto my toes and pressed my lips against his. He was stubborn and hesitant, not responding for a moment, but then he began to kiss back passionately. I hummed into his lips and moaned a little as he pulled me closer against his body.

I began to walk us back toward the bedroom as I did, careful to not put too much pressure on his wound, which was still healing. After we were in the bedroom I kicked the door shut behind us and began to take our clothes off.

After several weeks of quiet, I was at my studio working with my team when I got a text. I looked down to see Jason's name, then decided that I'd answer in a little while.

A moment or two later, however, another text came in from Dick. And then Babs.

My brow furrowed as I wondered what could've been going on, then my heart dropped as another text came in.

Bruce.

"Guys, I hate to do this, but I need to cut the meeting short. I've gotta run," I said, standing from the table and gathering my things into my arms.

"Everything all right?" Addison asked.

"We'll...uh, we'll see. I think. I'll let you know when I can reschedule."

They all agreed and said their goodbyes as I headed for the door, scrolling through the texts. They were all asking me to come to Wayne Manor ASAP.

I dialed Jason's number as I packed my bag and made my way to my car.

"Dani," he said, audibly relieved.

"Jay, what's going on? Are you okay? Is someone hurt?" I said.

"No, everyone's fine, as far as we know, but...well...I..."

"What is it?" I said.

"Dani, it's...well, it's..."

I got nervous as he trailed off again. Jason was hardly ever speechless.

"It's Tim," Barbara's voice said, having snatched the phone. "He's missing. Kidnapped."

"What?" I said, shocked.
