Chapter 31.

~Elijah~

Shots rang around us but the only thing mattered was Maya who was now unconscious in my arms. Finding her in the state she was in, was too much for me right now. I could only imagine the agony my angel was in. Her naked form which was now covered in my shirt was way to pale. Her sluggishness told that she had been drugged.

Anger seemed to be a permanent emotion since the second I found out Maya was taken. But now worry replaced it.

I heard footsteps behind me but I couldn’t bother to move my eyes from Maya. I knew I had to take her away from here. To a safe place and a hospital. But I couldn’t bring myself to move her from my embrace right now.

“Elijah we have to go, now.” Dylan squatted down beside me and placed a hand on my shoulder. “This isn’t the time for a meltdown man. We need to get going.”

I turned towards him and look at him but only for a second. The look of sympathy he has in his eyes is quite unbearable. “We have Jackson captured. First let’s tend to your woman. Then you can deal with him however you want.”

My body hardened at the mention of that bastard. I stood with my Maya in my arms. A man came over with a sheet in his arms and I hated it. I hated how they could look at her like this. She was mine. Every part of her was just for me. My eyes. I looked away as Dylan took the sheet from him and wrapped it around Maya. His eyes on mine were filled with understanding but that didn’t mean I liked it any better. My hatred for Jackson only grew by the second.

I stepped back and turned around, leaving with only my mind set on my woman. I lifted her up and bend over nuzzling my nose in her neck. My eyes watered at the thought of what she went through and I swear every single one would pay.

~Maya~

Every single bone in my body ached as I tried to pry my eyes open. What has he done to me? Panic filled me as I snapped my eyes open. Bright lights invaded my vision, almost blinding and another layer of panic gripped me. What else is going to happen to me?

As my vision cleared and my brain took in the surroundings, confusion filled me. Is this a hospital room? Why don’t I remember anything? The last thing that comes to me is how he drugged me after his fingers…

Tears filled me as my mind wandered to how my fate decided to repeat my past all over again. Did Elijah come to save me? Is that why I’m in the hospital? Or is it another one of Jackson’s sick games?

Nothing seems real. Not even when the door opened and in come my reason of existence. It was like my mind couldn’t interpret what was right and what wasn’t. A sob fell past my lips s my eyes connected with Elijahs, wanting so much for this to be real.

Not even a second and he was right beside me, his arms wrapped around me in a tight embrace and although my body screamed with agony, I hugged him just as tight. “Shhh angel. It’s going to be okay.” I wanted to believe him but right now nothing mattered. I would deal with my stuff after I’ve had my fill of him. I needed his comfort far more than anything else.

My body rocked with my sobs and it was then I heard the pain in voice. “I’m so sorry angel. So so sorry.” I leaned back and took his face in my hands no matter how much pain it caused me to do so.

His eyes filled with tears and I watched as one escaped and rolled down his cheek. This strong brave man was shedding tears for me. For the first time since we’ve been together I’ve seen him in such pain. “I can’t believe you’re real.” I said and my voice so hoarse and it scratched my throat. “Please tell me you’re real.”

He cupped my face and lightly pressed his lips to mine. “I’m real. Very much real. No one will ever take you from me again. I promise you.”

“He said- he said that you were dead. And I thought you would never come for me.” I mouth rambled. For the first time I didn’t want to hide anything. I wanted to tell him. Tell him what happened to me. I needed him to know. “He showed me you died.” My body started shaking as sobs racked through me as I remembered how I felt to lose him.

“Nothing can stop me from coming to you. You can count on me. Always.”

“I do.” I whispered as pain started to make me dizzy. My ribs hurt from where he kicked me after assaulting me.

Blackness drowned and I heard Elijah whisper in my ear “Sleep angel. I’ll look over you.”

Funny how he called me his angel yet he was the one who saved me and protected me.

I don’t remember how long did I sleep but when I woke up, my body felt a little better. It might be the painkillers. I looked around and found Elijah on the chair next to my bed with his head bend over near my hand. I lifted my hand, glad it didn’t hurt as much as it did before. It was as if every bone in my body was so tired, so weak.

Running my fingers through his hair, my heart felt with peace. I was safe. I don’t know what happened to Jackson and Tom, but I was glad I wouldn’t have to face them again. I knew Elijah won’t ever let me. And I was totally okay with it.

He stirred, lifting his head. A small smile graced his lips as our eyes connected. A flare of happiness sparked in my heart as I looked at him.

“Hi.” His voice groggy from sleep.

“Hi.” I smiled, genuinely happy. I cleared my throat but the lump won’t move. “Can I have some water?”

He was instantly on his feet, pouring a glass of water. The water was heaven as it ran through my throat, giving such relief.

“Thank you.”

He was about to reply when the door opened. A man entered wearing a doctor’s coat and smiled when he saw me awake. “Hello Miss Campbell. I’m Evan Ward. It’s so nice to meet you.”

I smiled at him and he came over, checking my IV and vitals while Elijah hovered over us following the doctor’s every move.

“Your vitals look and your blood pressure is back to normal. The bruises will fade in time and your ribs thankfully aren’t broken.” He moved his eyes from Elijah to mine again. “Now I would like to suggest a therapist for what you have gone through. The mental trauma might be far worse than your physical injuries. You are a strong woman and I believe that you can get through this.” He placed his hand on mine and I felt Elijah tense instantly.

I had to stifle a smile when Elijah cleared his throat and glare at his hand on mine. The doctor shifted uncomfortably and look at Elijah. “If you don’t mind me asking, how are you related to her again?”

“I’m her husband.” My head snapped to him and my mouth dropped open. He glanced at me but only for a second before his attention turned back to the doctor.

“Well.” The doctor cleared his throat, no doubt sensing the tension building around us. “Its good you’re here because what I’m about to tell you next might be better if you’re both present.”

Both of were instantly on alert. Elijah was the one who took the lead, interlacing our fingers firmly together. “Is everything okay doc?”

“Yes, everything is okay. Miss Ca..”

“Frost. Mrs Frost.” My mind couldn’t keep up with this so I pushed my nails in his palm as a warning, not taking my eyes of the doctor.

“Of course. Mrs Frost. After a few test. It has been confirmed that you are pregnant.”
