Lindsey's POV
~
"Stevie, are you ready?" I ask, spinning the car keys around my finger. "We're going to be late."
"Sharon didn't give a specific time. She and I agreed that we'd come around 2 pm." She argues from the bedroom and I pinch the bridge of my nose. This woman and her non-existent time management skills...
"Around 2 pm means 2 pm, Steph, come on. Let's get going." I rush her and I can hear Stevie's heavy sigh from the other room. "Babe!" I call out for her again and at last she appears, coming towards me, seemingly not too pleased. Suddenly, I want to take back every word. She put the time to very good use. "Whoa..."
"What?" Stevie asks, putting on her shoes.
"You look, well, hot." I shrug, not caring to come up with a better compliment. She's wearing a skintight black dress, long sleeves, but with a sweetheart neckline, which I greatly appreciate.
"Thank you." She smiles, softening just like that. "Okay, good to go."
We're on our way to Sharon and Todd's. She gave birth a month ago and we're going to meet our goddaughter for the very first time. I'm not really sure, what's expected from a godfather, but I know that I'll probably fall in love with that girl the second I see her. I look over at Stevie in the passenger's seat, she's holding a plush toy nearly her size and I chuckle to myself.
"You better not be laughing at my height." Stevie catches me, which makes it even harder to stop.
Sharon and Todd are the only friends of ours, who live in a house. Todd's father is really well off, so that's not surprising. I pull into the driveway and park the car, quickly walking around the front to Stevie's side, so I can help her out with the giant teddy bear.
Stevie approaches the front door first, but I'm close behind her. Unashamed, I stare at her ass and do my best to resist giving her a playful slap. Good thing Todd opens the door to let us in.
"Come on in!" He seems excited to see us both, but he's always been a cheerful person. "It's so good to see you." He and Stevie hug, then we shakes hands.
"I want to see your baby girl." Stevie wastes no time and Todd laughs lightly, leading the way into the family room.
"Here she is." Todd proudly shows to Sharon, who's holding their daughter in her arms. Even I feel a little teary eyed.
"Hey." Stevie approaches them and she shares a quick hug with Sharon. "My God, she's beautiful."
"Isn't she?" Sharon nods, gently tapping the tip of Gretta's nose.
I come to stand behind Stevie, when she sits on the couch, and place my hands on her shoulders, looking down at the baby. I would never admit it out loud, but all babies look the same to me.
"Can I hold her?" I hear myself say and, uh... I'm not sure, where that came from.
"Of course." Sharon nods and I walk over closer to her. She tells me how to hold out my arms and then lays Gretta in them. "I guess, you are pretty cute." I smile down at her and her big brown eyes stare back up at me.
Stevie's now standing by my side, her arm wrapped around my back, head on my shoulder. We both talk to Gretta for a while, she furrows her little eyebrows and her face relaxes again as if she can understood what we're saying.
"When are you getting one of those?" Todd asks and Sharon's not pleased.
"One of those? Todd, that's our daughter!"
"I know, I know, baby, I'm just joking." He apologizes, giving her a kiss, but Sharon still sits with her lips pursed. "So?" Todd looks over at us again, I hoped he wouldn't.
"Well..." Surprisingly, Stevie's the one to speak up before me. "Who knows? Maybe sooner rather than later." I'm slightly shocked as I look at her and she just smiles up at me. "You look good with a baby in your arms."
"Steph, you better not be messing with me." I warn her, but she doesn't dwell on the subject.
"Alright, you've had your turn." She says, holding her arms out for Gretta.
