Fallan

There it was again - the sensation of that cold metal barrel pressed against my throat. I struggled to breathe, desperately gulping down breaths to my oxygen starved lungs. I looked up to see his glare - dead slanted eyes like granite. These weren't Kenny's.
"I'm coming for you girl." Levi snarled, and flicked the safety of the gun. I screamed out, grasping at the thin cloth of his shirt.
BANG.

I awoke abruptly and fought to stifle the scream that was about to fall from my lips. I clawed at my throat and tried to steady my breathing.
"Fuck." I gasped, and sat up expecting to see Levi resting beside me. Only, the bed was empty. Instead, I found my clothes neatly folded in his place.
'I'll be here when you wake' my arse.
I swung my legs over the side of the bed and shakily set my feet down on the cold wooden floor. My whole body was shivering and I was drenched in a cold sweat. God, I hated those nightmares.

I felt rather exposed as I padded down the hallway towards the living room, dressed only in Levi's shirt. I could hear the faint mutterings and cluttering of the others, and suddenly the events of the previous night came flooding back to me.
Fuck, we kissed.
The nervous butterflies returned as I anticipated seeing Levi. The kiss to me felt like fireworks. In that moment, I felt happy, I felt almost complete - I just hoped he felt the same way.
I entered the front room and saw Laurie busying herself in the open kitchenette. I smiled and sent her a small wave, which she graciously returned. She looked me up and down and winked, and I then realised she must've been wearing Erwin's white shirt. It looked huge on her frame.
I turned my head to see Erwin and Levi sat on the settees, both shirtless with blankets wrapped around their shoulders sipping their drinks. Erwin nodded to me, but Levi gave me one look then averted his gaze. Regret began to pool in the depths of my stomach.
"Fallan! Here!" Laurie rushed over and handed me a hot cup of tea, "I'm just preparing breakfast. I wasn't expecting guests, so I'm afraid it's only bread!"
"You're too kind." I smiled at her, taking the mug from her hands and sipping it.
"Any friend of Erwin's is a friend of mine." She beamed, and a weird sensation took over me. Me, a friend of Erwin's? To be honest, I hadn't quite taken in the entire situation. I was sat in Captain Levi's shirt after sleeping next to him, being handed a drink by the Commander's presumed secret girlfriend, whilst the Captain and Commander sat shirtless. An uncomfortable shiver ran its way down my spine.
"Are you okay Fallan?" Erwin asked, looking at me over the brim of his cup.
"Yes," I cleared my throat, awkwardly shuffling my feet, "Yes I'm fine, thank you."
"Good, then sit." He replied, tilting his head. Erwin had stretched his legs onto the arm chair, so the only available seat was next to Levi, who was currently refusing to look in my direction.
"I'm fine standing." I shrugged.
"Don't be silly!" Laurie tutted, and shooed me over to the seat. I perched down, grasping the mug within my white knuckles for dear life. I looked to Levi, who was staring at me out of the corner of his eye. When our gaze met, his eyes darted to the floor.
Ouch.
Did he regret last night? Was it all a big misunderstanding? I hung my head and let my hair fall from behind my ear, blocking him from my eyesight.
"Did you all sleep okay?" Laurie asked from the kitchen.
"Yes, thank you. Did you?" I replied, grasping the mug tighter.
"No, Erwin snores." She sighed, and made her way over to us with a plate stacked with bread in hand. She smacked Erwin's legs with her free hand as a signal for him to move them (which he very quickly did), and settled in the armchair.
"We can't all be perfect." Erwin mused, grabbing a slice and biting into it. Laurie offered me the plate, but I smiled and shook my head. The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife, and it had made me loose my appetite. Silence filled the air for an uncomfortably long amount of time.
"So," I began, "You never did explain how you two know each other."
Laurie grinned and stretched back in her seat.
"We went to school together." She started, "I was so shocked when Erwin enrolled in the Cadet corps, broke my poor heart. I felt like a wife longing for her husband at war."
"Laurie," Erwin warned, rolling his eyes.
I couldn't help but smile at the sentiment, but my heart tugged with longing.
"Erwin was my first love, and so I trained as a Doctor to make sure I could help if he was ever injured." The pair smiled at each other, and I could see their eyes fill with affection.
"Of course, the stubborn bastard still refuses my help to this day." Laurie sighed, and sipped her tea.
"So what, are you two fucking?" Levi's drawl came from beside me. Of course the first words he'd spoken were crude. Laurie let out a surprised laugh and shook her head.
"No no, nothing like that. We're just old friends now." She said, but I could sense the sadness that tainted her bright tone.
"Anyways," Laurie breathed, smacking her hands on her knees, "Fallan. Erwin tells me you're something of a genius on these Titans. Tell me everything."

We continued the small-talk for a while, but Levi stayed completely silent through it all. I began to grow annoyed with him, but of course, I never said a word.
Erwin announced we'd be leaving soon, and so I changed back into my clothes and began to dread the carriage ride home.
