Fallan:
I opened my door and checked the hallway - it was empty. Benjin would kill me if he knew I'd lied to him. I decided to head straight to the place no one would find me , the stables. My boots quickly tapped against the polished wooden floors of the hallway, if I walked quick enough I'd avoid bumping into anyone.
Truthfully, I should've been asleep. However, sleep meant nightmares. In the recent months I'd only slept when I was completely exhausted; that exhaustion putting me into the deepest slumber not even the nightmares could wake me up from. Most nights visions of titans and my dead comrades plagued my mind, and would wake me in a cold sweat. I turned a corner and exited the base, smiling slightly as the warmth of the sun's light rays hit my face. I loved the sun, it reminded me of my childhood in Mitras. Most of it was spent playing outside with Edward, but I pushed those thoughts aside. Now was not the time to mourn my brother.
The stables seemed barren, that of which I was thankful for. I wouldn't say I was an antisocial person, I just enjoyed my own presence a lot of time. I was never one for pointless small talk, and as I didn't have many friends here in the Scouts, small talk was all I ever really had with anyone. The stables were huge, being home to over 600 horses. It made the perfect environment to sit and relax. There was a spot I'd always adored - a small ledge that overlooked the vast valleys of Trost. I hoisted myself up onto it and leaned my head back, taking in the scenery. The serenity didn't last long as I heard someone clearing their throat behind me. I internally rolled my eyes but kept a straight face, looking over in the direction of the noise. It was Levi. Excellent.
"Captain Levi." I acknowledged him, but made no effort to initiate conversation. He didn't strike me as the type to enjoy pointless small talk, so I prayed he didn't engage in one with me.
"You like horses?" he grunted, looking to the side. God help me.
I shrugged in response, turning my gaze back to the landscape.
"Me neither, but they're better than people eh?" he pushed himself up onto the ledge, at opposite ends to me. I nodded slowly.
"Why are you here Levi?" I asked, attempting to keep the sourness from my voice. I really didn't like this kid.
"Shitty Glasses said she thinks you don't like me, I'm starting to see what she means."
My eyebrows rose, and I turned my head to look at him. My wide eyes met his steely gaze. That idiot.
"I don't care if you like me or not. I just hope you won't cause tension because of it," his eyes broke away to stare at the tumbling fields. "The last thing this place needs is petty squabbling between comrades over personal opinions."
"What does it matter if I like you or not?" I shrugged. He was right, tension between soldiers could only end badly, but that didn't mean I had to be nice to the guy. "However Hanji speaks highly of you, and I've seen you make a strong soldier. I have no reason to think badly of you, Sir."
Levi exhaled, looking bored as per usual. "You don't have to lie because I'm your superior. I think this whole system is bullshit anyway," he met my gaze once again, grey eyes staring deeply into mine, "What do you think of me, Lieutenant?"
I scoffed, an unusual reaction for me.
"I hardly think my opinion matters, Sir."
"Call me Levi, and go on. I want to hear it."
I took a deep breath. If he wanted the truth, so be it.
"I think you're a dick, but for some reason, Commander Erwin saw something in you and decided to make you a Captain, a title Scouts work, and often die for so, regardless of whether or not I agree with the Commander's decision, I will respect it and refer to you by your proper title, Sir." I spoke, looking to him confidently. I expected his stare to harden at my words, however a glint of something I couldn't quite detect sparkled in his eyes. Was it surprise, no, curiosity? I could see a smirk fighting its way onto his lips as the corner of his mouth tugged slightly.
"Better?" he asked and tore his gaze away once again, returning to the scenery. I didn't bother replying, instead stood up and brushed myself down. What a dick.
"Excuse me, I'm rather busy and I-"
"I won't tell on you, you know?"
I expected amusement to be evident in his tone, but it remained monptone.. A small spark of anger began to ignite in my stomach; I ignored it.
"Excuse me? You asked my opinion and I stated it." I replied, gritting my teeth slightly.
"Disrespecting a superior in such a way, I thought you knew better Lieutenant."
For some reason, the raven haired male was trying to wind me up. I was clueless as to why. However, I knew better, and fought to keep my calm exterior.
"I-"
"It stays between us. On one condition." he began, and I crossed my arms, raising an eyebrow at him. He looked towards me, expressionless.
"Eat with me tonight."
I opened my mouth to reply, but no words came out and so I closed it again.
"I'm taking your silence as a yes. I'll see you tonight, come find me in the Hall."
I decided not to argue, for fear of my words coming out as a stammering mess. Instead I nodded, muttered a 'yes Captain' , turned on my heel and headed towards the exit of the stables.
"And drop the fucking formalities."
