Over the next week, the village finished the preparations for the biggest event that Berk will every see, the wedding of their chief, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, and the love of his life, Astrid 'Fearless' Hofferson. The days following up to the day before, Astrid had been helping around the great hall, hanging the shields, arranging the flowers (which they finally decided to be water lilies that they found at the cove), and then finally, getting small alterations on her dress. Hiccup had a few alterations as well, mostly because of the clothes being a little too wide for the somewhat scrawny chief.
The snow kept pouring down as well since they were still in the dead of winter and would be for the next 8 months. It was a little hard to work around, but Astrid loved the feel it put in the air. She thought snow was one of the most romantic settings there could be.
At the moment, the afternoon before the wedding, Astrid, Hiccup and Valka were loitering in their den, biding Astrid a farewell until tomorrow. Hiccup had his arms firmly wrapped around Astrid's waist and was kissing every inch of her giggling face.
"It's only till tomorrow babe." She said between giggles.
He stopped kissing her for a moment. "Yes, but tomorrow when I see you we will be getting married. These are my last kisses with you as my fiancee."
Astrid smiled and pushed him back. "Yes, it is also the last night of freedom. Tomorrow we will be bound together until death."
Hiccup gave her a goofy smile. "Sounds a little extreme don't you think?"
Astrid nodded and pulled him back for another hug along with another kiss. "I love you."
"I love you." Hiccup said back.
"Yes, yes, yes. You love each other." Valka, who was standing off to the side holding Astrid's dress and other things that she will need to help the blonde get ready in the morning, interrupted. "Astrid needs to get her beauty sleep." She said, pushing her towards the door before pointing to Hiccup. "And you..."
Hiccup swatted his hand in the air. "Yeah, yeah, I know there's nothing that will help all of this." He said, gesturing to all of him.
Valka rolled her eyes. Astrid, however, ran back over to him, mashing her lips to his.
"I think you look very handsome babe." She said as she pulled away.
They pulled on each others hands until they were too far apart. Valka ushered Astrid out the door. Once outside, Astrid looked to her left, up at the great hall. Vikings were putting the finishing touches on the outside. White and blue ribbons were being hung between the few lanterns that lined the stairs leading to the door.
Just looking at the scene jumpstarted Astrid's heart. Tomorrow she will be marrying the love of her life. It was hard for her to wrap her head around, but she was trying. When Astrid jogged up the steps to her uncles house, she gave a slight knock before letting herself in. She held the door open for Valka and shut it once she was inside. The smell of burnt chicken and spices swelled through the air of her former home.
"Uncle? I'm home, like I promised." Astrid called.
Finn came rushing out of the kitchen, dressed in his comfy clothes with a dirty, grease covered smock tied around his waist. His hair was awry and part of his beard looked to be singed.
"Uncle?" Astrid asked, utterly astounded.
"There's my little girl!" He yelled, opening his arms wide.
In one hand he had a mitt and the other held tongs, which were covered in a burnt substance. Astrid wafted her hand in front of her face, crinkling her nose.
