Rachel’s P.O.V.
I woke up the next morning to the sound of screams and battle cries. Growls and snarls sounded from outside and I instantly knew something was off.
“Hayden, get up” I said frantically, shaking his shoulder to try and get him to wake up. He stirred in his sleep and groaned.
“Hayden you have to get up, now!” I ordered and Hayden instantly sat up in bed, blinking at me through wide eyed and breathing hard.
“What’s wrong?” he asked when a series of loud bangs came from downstairs. Glancing at the closed bedroom door he looked at me.
“What’s going on?” he asked concerned when Holden started crying loudly. Hurriedly getting up off the bed, I made my way over to him, scooping him up into my arms and cradling him to try and get him to be quiet. Glancing out the window, I was met with a battle field of wolves and wolves in human form.
“Rogues” I breathed just as the bedroom door burst open, revealing a man with ruby red eyes and black as night hair. He had a scar that ran down from his brow to his jaw and neck.
“Give me the child” he ordered in a low tone as soon as his eyes fell upon Holden. Stumbling back I held Holden protectively to my chest, refusing to give him up.
“I said, give it to me!” he snarled, causing me to flinch but still I kept Holden pressed up against me.
“You pathetic little bitch! I said give me the child!” he snapped stalking forward with the sway of a full-blooded predator. I turned my face away from him and sucked in my breath.
“No!” Hayden’s voice reached my ears and opening my eyes, I was met with the sight of him wrestling the Rogue to the ground.
“Rachel, go now, get out of here!” he yelled struggling against the more muscular form of the higher ranking Rogue.
“Hayden, no” I whispered but he met my eyes with a determined gaze “Go, protect Holden!” my feet began moving on their own accord and carried me out the bedroom door, down the stairs and towards the cellars located in the basement. Heading to the farthest one which was empty, I opened the barred door and placed Holden inside in the farthest corner before closing and locking the door. It would be the safest place for Holden to be kept during the fights since the cells were designed to keep wolves in and because of that they’d also be able to keep wolves out.
“I love you, baby” I whispered then hid the keys inside one of the lose bricks so I could make my way back upstairs and to the back door. As soon as I stepped out onto the back porch the smell of blood and smoke struck my nose just as something crashed through the back door, narrowly missing me and landing in a heap on the ground.
“Hayden!” I exclaimed, rushing down the porch steps to get to him but the Rogue from earlier grabbed a fistful of my hair, pulling me back.
“Where is it?” he demanded in my ear, his free hand snacking around my throat when I didn’t reply.
“Answer me bitch!” he ordered tightening his hold on my neck, causing me to gasp for air while clawing at both his hands as best I could.
“Please-.” I begged but still his grip only tightened, lifting me up off the ground and pressing me up against the side of the house “Do I look like I’m in the mood for games, now where is the child?” I struggled against him as best I could only to have him slam my body into the side of the house for a second time, causing blood to drip down from the side of my mouth.
“Where is it?” he snarled in outrage, eyes glowing a more brighter shade of red than before. I spat at him and raised my leg, kneeing him in the stomach hard enough for him to let go of me. Making a break for the porch steps, I ran to where Hayden was trying to heave himself up onto both legs.
