Detective Marlon Roco and his partner for this case, detective Earl Walsh sat in their car with cups of coffee, waiting till they had finished their beverages to get out and examine the ruins. Marlon sipped his black coffee, not sure how to start a conversation with the thirty-four-year-old Earl. "What brought you here?", Marlon finally asked, trying not to act like a forty-three-year-old man who had seen a lot of shit. Earl shrugged, "I was just transferred, to be honest". Marlon nodded, "Cool", he said. Earl shrugged, "I heard this area is tough though". "It can be", Marlon said, "But at least your not in that shithole Weinberg". Marlon got a slight laugh from Earl. Earl knew he was stalling, so he got out the saloon Mercedes and Marlon followed. Marlon had short brown hair with blue eyes and was slightly chubby, with a friendly, clean-shaven face. Earl had a tough face, with black hair and green eyes that could see through liars.

Marlon and Earl walked in silence to the scene of the crime. Marlon was glad to see the annoying mortician, Henry. "Hey, Henry", Marlon said, putting a pair of blue surgical gloves on, "What we got?". Henry pulled his white boiler suit hood down and sucked air between his teeth. "It's not an easy one, guys", he began. Earl nodded, "How did thsi happen?", he asked, looking around at the burnt-out church. "This was no accidental fire, gentlemen", Henry said, wiping his nose with a handkerchief from his pocket, "This was arson". "Any casualties?", Marlon asked, not seeing anything obvious. Henry solemnly nodded, "Unfortunately I examined a family of four earlier. I was just back taking pictures of where they were". "Damn", Earl whispered. "A murder and an arson", Marlon said, "Great". "They were asleep when they were burnt", Henry said, "I can tell you more when I get a better look". Marlon nodded and Henry departed. "Let us start canvassing", Earl said, "Someone must have seen something". "It's not as easy as that", Marlon said, "Nobody talks". "I've dealt with hard cases too", Earl said, "I know how to get people to talk". Marlon followed Earl out of the remnants of the church and they started walking around to neighbours. Marlon didn't have high hopes.
