Day One~

Jewel's POV:

"Well, where are you from?"

My mouth dried. What was I going to tell him?

"Oh, uh- I'm from... around." I said.

"Well where's around?" He asked.

I gulped. There was no way that Michael as a human would believe that I'm from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

"The Pacific."

"The Pacific Islands?" He asked.

"No. Just Pacific." I said.

"I don't know the place you're talking about." He said.

I bit my lips nervously. "A lot of people don't."

"You're real interesting. I've never met anyone like you before."

I tucked my hair behind my ear and smiled. "I'm not sure if that's a compliment, but thank you."

He smiled too. "I guess it is."

He grabbed something from out the fridge. I'm not too sure what it was. There were white oval things inside of the box.

"Can I make you some eggs?" He asked. "Well, first of all, have you ever heard of them?"

I shook my head. "No, I haven't."

He chuckled. "I figured. Don't worry, they taste real good. I make the best." He said with a wink.

My heart fluttered when he did that.

He walked over to some machine and turned the knob. I heard a flew clicks before a orange orb emitted from it.

I recognized it instantly.

"Is that fire?" I asked.

He glanced at me. He seemed surprised that I knew what it was. "Yeah, it is."

I stepped closer to the flame. I'd never seen fire before. What was it like? Was it soft? Was it cold? Was it hot?

I slowly reached out my hand to touch the fire, but Michael instantly snatched it away.

"No! You don't touch fire, or the hot stove. It'll burn you." He said.

"I- I didn't know." I said apologetically.

"I see you don't know a lot. I think you should ask before doing anything because you could end up hurting yourself. It's a dangerous world I live in."

Daddy would always tell me that it was dangerous on the surface.

"Okay. I will." I agreed.

He took a pan and placed it over the fire. He took an egg and banged it against the edge of the pan.

He parted the egg and yellow goo inside of it fell into the pan.

"Can I try?" I asked.

He nodded and handed me an egg.

I hit the egg against the pan much harder than I should've. The cracked white shell and yellow goo made a mess all over the hot stove.

He laughed. "Don't crack it that hard, Jewel." He said. He handed me another. "Here. Try again."

I cracked it softer this time. I copied what he did with his egg and let the yellow goo fall into the pan.

The egg goo made a cracking sound in the pan that Michael called a sizzle.

When the eggs were done cooking, he placed them between two pieces of a spongy looking thing. He called them bread slices.

He put them on a plate and placed them in front of me on the table.

"Here you go." He said.

I picked it up off the plate. "So this would be called eggs and two breads?" I asked.

He let out a laugh. "No. It's simpler than that. An egg sandwich."

"Oh." I said. I took a bite and hummed in approval.

"You like it?" He asked.

I nodded. "This is delicious! They don't have these where I'm from."

"They really don't?" He asked.

I shook my head. "They don't." I confirmed.

He laughed. "You must be from a different planet."

I shrugged with a small smile. "Maybe so."

He sat down across from me. "Can you tell me how you ended up passed out on the beach? You had me and my friend worried when we found you. We thought you were dead" He said.

I scratched my head. "I don't remember much from yesterday." I lied. "I can't really say."

"How am I supposed to get you back home then?"

"No!" I shouted.

He looked taken aback by my reaction. "Oh, okay then. I'm sorry." He apologized.

I sighed. "No, I'm sorry. I just really don't want to go back."

"So you want to stay here?" He asked.

"Can I?"

He breathed out a laugh. "Well I can't send you away, so I have no choice other than to keep you here."

"Thank you, Michael."

He shrugged. "No problem." He said with a smile.

I finished my eggs and he took my plate.

I stood up from my seat and walked around his house some more.

All of his gadgets and gizmos were really cool to look at.

On a table, he had a picture of him and another beautiful woman. He was placing a kiss on her cheek.

My stomach turned. There was no way I had come all the way to surface to win his love, just for him to already have someone.

I grabbed the photo and went back into the kitchen with Michael.

"Who is she?" I asked him.

He looked at the photo. His eyes turned sad much like how they were when I saw him on the boat.

"That's Jessie. She's my ex girlfriend." He said.

My nerves eased. "Oh." I said.

"Yeah... we were together for four years and she just up and left me a couple days ago."

I felt sad for him. I wanted him to know that I would never leave him like Jessie did.

I grabbed his hand. "I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" I asked as I stroked his face with my other hand.

He nodded. "I will be. It's tough, but I'll be alright." He said.

I smiled at him, fighting the urge to kiss him.

He smiled back at me. "You know, Jewel, as weird and unusual as you are, I might enjoy having you around." He said.

I couldn't contain my happiness at him saying that. "And I'll enjoy being around you."
