Day Three~Jewel's POV:
28.
It'd been three days, and I'd made very little progress to get him to fall in love. If I kept on getting distracted by the things of this world, I would forget the entire point of me being on land.
I got out of my bed and headed downstairs to find Michael. He sat on his large, soft chair while playing with Bruno.
I walked over to him. "Hi."
He didn't look up from playing with Bruno. "Good morning." He said.
He looked up at me and his expression instantly changed.
"I must be crazy." He said.
I raised a brow. "Why?"
"Yesterday, we had a whole conversation about why your necklace had the number twenty-nine, and now it says twenty-eight. It just keeps counting down." He said.
I glanced down at the jewel. "I guess it does."
"What's the countdown for?" He asked.
I shrugged. "I'm not sure. I just found this necklace somewhere, remember?"
He glanced between me and the necklace a few times. "That's really weird." He said. After that, he dropped the subject.
I didn't want to lie to him, but I couldn't tell him. He would never believe me. He already thought I was crazy to begin with!
Bruno ran over to the front door and began scratching it. He ran around in a circle and jumped into the air a few times before scratching the door again.
"Whats he doing?" I asked.
"He knows the routine. I always take him on his walk around this time." Michael said.
"You two just walk together?" I asked.
"Yeah, basically. It's the only time he gets to handle his business if you know what I mean." He said. He corrected himself. "Actually, you probably don't."
I nodded. "I actually do this time. I had a pet before, and I had to swi-"
I stopped mid sentence. There had been too many times where I almost slipped up.
"You were saying?" Michael asked to get me to finish my sentence.
"I lost my train of thought."
He chuckled. "Hate when that happens."
He stood from his seat and grabbed a rope thingy off of the table by the door. He attached the end of it to Bruno's dog necklace.
"Why are you connecting him to a rope?" I asked.
"Because if I don't put a leash on him, he'll run off once he catches a scent. Beagle dogs are known for that."
"Oh." I said. "Can I go with you guys?"
"Sure."
I smiled. "Yay! Let's go!"
"You don't think you need shoes?" He asked, looking down at my bare feet.
"Right, I'll go get some."
I hurried to my room and grabbed a pair of sneakers. I remembered Michael said they were the best for walking in.
"Ready." I said once I came back down the stairs.
He nodded and let me out the front door. We started walking down his street. This was the first time I got to take a good look at all of the houses.
They were all different colors. It reminded me of the neighborhoods under the sea, but prettier.
There were big, pretty, green things all around. Some even had flowers in them.
"This is a beautiful neighborhood." I said.
"It's one of the nicer ones." Michael said.
I continued to walk, mesmerized by the beautiful houses. I turned to my right, completely expecting Michael to be there.
He wasn't. He was a few feet behind me standing still while Bruno peed with one leg up next to an orange thingy.
I laughed. "Why is the doing it like that?" I asked.
Michael chuckled. "That's how they all do it."
"It looks funny."
He nodded. "It does."
Bruno finished peeing and started to walk alongside Michael again.
"Can I hold the rope- I mean leash?" I asked.
He handed it to me. "He's a strong dog. Make sure he doesn't end up walking you." He said with a laugh.
I laughed too. "Hey, I get that joke."
"I knew you would." He said with a smile.
We turned a corner and Bruno stopped again. A bush rustled in front of us. He began sniffing the air.
"Uh oh. Here we go." Michael said. "Hold that leash tig-"
A small brown animal scurried out of the bush, Bruno took off with all of his might, causing me to fall forward.
I screamed as I was dragged a few feet before Michael grabbed ahold of the leash.
"Geez, Bruno." He said, as he tried to calm
him down. "You and those damn squirrels."He reached out his hand and helped me off of the ground. "Are you alright?" He asked seeing very concerned.
I looked down at my scratched up and bruised human legs. "I mean, I'm alive."
Michael laughed. "I'm sorry about that. There's always the one squirrel that gets him all riled up." He said.
"Can I still hold the leash?"
He raised a brow. "You still want to?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I do."
He hesitated before handing me the leash again.
He started walking again. Bruno was calm, so I felt safe.
Michael still didn't trust that he wouldn't try and run off again.
Michael grabbed my hand. "Just in case he tries to run off again." He said.
I squeezed his hand tighter. It was much bigger than mine, but our hands together were a perfect fit.
I silently thanked Bruno for dragging me. If he hadn't, Michael and I wouldn't have been walking and swinging our arms hand-in-hand.
We already looked like a couple.
I wasn't the only one who thought so, either.
"Hey, Michael!"
