Day Twenty~

Adella's POV:

"I seriously can't believe that Jewel did this! Why would she do this our family? She's so selfish!" Asia complained.

"She's so ungrateful! Daddy arranged for her to marry the prince, and she runs away! I don't understand why she's his favorite." I complained.

"She's the gem of the family. "The Jewel." Asia said.

"He would've given her the entire world if she wasn't so damn difficult." Ava said.

"She doesn't want our world. She wants the human world. Only Neptune knows why." I said.

"Daddy should've let one of us marry Aaron instead of her." Asia said.

"Honestly, it's probably better she stay up there. She has the stubborn nature of a human anyway." Ava said.

I sighed. "If Mother and Daddy can just accept that Jewel is gone, it'd be a lot better for us down here." I said.

Ava nodded. "I think so too. We can be a happy, peaceful family."

"Girls! Why are you talking like this?" Mother said as she swam into the room.

All of our faces turned white as she gave us an angry glare.

"Mother! We were just-"

"I heard you three! All of it! Why would you talk about your younger sister in such a way?" She asked. We could hear the hurt in her voice. "Do you not care? Are you guys not worried?"

"Of course we are! We were just discussing that we don't understand why she would do this after all you and Daddy have done for her." Ava said.

"But I heard you three saying we're better off without her! Is that what you guys really think?" She asked.

"No, Mother. We miss Jewel just as much as you and Daddy do. We're just going through a rollercoaster of emotions right now." I said.

She rubbed her forehead with her hand. "I can't do this right now. Your father is back, and I don't want him to hear this conversation."

Daddy swam into the room with a pained look on his face. Mother changed her look of distress to an expression of worry. "Honey, is everything alright?" She asked.

"I just miss my Jewel. I want her back under the sea. We're keeping close monitor of the sea witch to make sure that she's making that elixir." He said.

My sisters and I gave a subtle eye roll.

"Daddy, I don't mean to be negative, but don't you think if Jewel wanted to come back she'd be back? There's no way for you to go on land and force her to come home." I said.

Daddy lowered his brows at me. "Don't speak this nonsense, Adella!" He scorned. "I'm going to bring Jewel back to us. Even if it's the last thing I do."

Jewel's POV:

Staring up at the stars was something I always wanted to do. I used to try and sneak away to surface and watch the stars at night, but I'd always get caught. Now I finally could.

I heard the back door creak open. I turned to see Michael's head poking outside.

"What are you doing out here so late?" He asked as he walked toward me.

"I'm just looking at the stars. I've never done it before." I said.

He looked up that the sky. "They're really clear tonight."

"How many stars are there?" I asked.

He breathed out a laugh. "Trillions. They're basically infinite."

Not too far away, a bright light began to soar through the sky.

"What's that?" I asked, pointing toward the light.

Michael eyes widened. "That's a shooting star! Make a wish." He said.

I scrunched my nose. "I don't know about that. My birthday wish didn't come true."

He frowned. "It's just for fun. A lot of people know it's just bullshit, but its still fun."

I sighed. "I suppose I'll make another one."

"Hurry before it passes!" He urged.

I gazed up at the passing star. I only had one true wish. I'd keep wishing it until it was granted, or I died.

I wish for Michael to fall in love with me.

Michael's POV:

Jewel stared up the stars. They twinkled and reflected back in her eyes. I could only wonder what she was wishing for.

The star passed and she looked over at me. "I made my wish."

I smiled. "See? Wasn't that fun?"

She laughed at me. "I guess it was."

She rested her head on my shoulder and looked back up at the stars.

As beautiful as they were, I only wanted to look at her.

My growing love for her was the purest, best, and most unexpected love I'd ever experienced. I kept it in for this long, and it was starting to kill the both of us inside.

I took a deep breath. "Jewel."

She diverted her attention from the stars to me. "Yes?"

I stared down at the ground, searching for the right words to say. "I uh- I don't really know how to put this into words." I stammered.

Yes you do. You're just too nervous.

"Just say it." She said. Her eyes studied me, eagerly trying to figure out what I was going to say before anything even came out of my mouth.

"Jewel, I lov-"

My phone vibrated in my back pocket. She frowned once I stopped talking.

"Hold on." I said as I reached for my phone.

Jessie is calling...

I glanced up at her. Her eyes showed me a disappointed look that she tried to hide from me with the rest of her body.

"Let me answer this. I'll be one second." I said.

I jogged over to the door and stepped into the house.

The award for the best timing goes to Jessie Hoffman.

I swiped across the screen and answered the call. "Hello?"

"Michael," Jessie said from the other end. "Are you busy tomorrow?"

"I- no I'm not."

"Would you maybe want to go out for dinner? I'm not asking you on a date. I just want to see you." She said.

I looked through the window at Jewel who continued to stare up at the sky. She glanced over at me and gave me a small smile.

"Are you still there?" Jessie asked.

I looked away from Jewel. "Yeah, I am."

"So what do you say?"

"Jessie, I-"

"Remember, it's not a date. We're just going to lunch as friends."

I sighed. "Sure, Jessie. Whatever you want."
