Day Ten~

Jewel's POV:

I opened my eyes and lifted my head off of Michael's shoulder. We must've fallen asleep on the couch last night.

We suggested we watch a movie together. I'd never seen one before, and I didn't even get to finish it. I was so full from the pizza, that my body shut down halfway through it.

I just watched what was playing on the TV at that moment. There was an advertisement for something called a carnival.

The games they had were interesting. There was one where you threw a ball into a water filled bowl with a fish, another where u had to throw a ball and knock all the cups down, and one that involved hitting something as hard as you could for the most points.

They also had fluffy, cotton-looking food, giant stuffed animals, and a huge spinning circle with people riding on it.

I was instantly instantly intrigued. That place looked incredibly cool!

I turned to Michael. He was still asleep.

"Michael." I whispered as I lightly shook him.

His eyes opened slowly. "Huh?"

"Look!" I said, pointing at the TV.

He yawned and then turned toward the screen. "What? The carnival?" He asked.

I nodded. "Yes, the carnival!"

He furrowed his brows. "You woke me up for the carnival?"

I bit my lip. "Sorry."

"You must really want to go then, huh?" He said with a slight chuckle.

"Yeah, I do."

"I'll take you." He said.

"Really?" I asked.

He nodded. "Sure. It's been a while since I've gone, and I wouldn't mind going again." He said.

I wrapped my arms around him. "Oh thank you!" I said. "I just have to get on that circle thingy!"

"The Ferris wheel?" He asked.

I pulled away from him. "If that's what it's called, then yes."

He stood up from the couch. "Well if we're going we'd better get there early before it gets too crowded."

~~

The carnival in person was so much cooler than it looked on the TV!

The second we stepped inside, I couldn't handle my wonder and enthusiasm. I spun around in absolute awe of the place.

Children ran around with the same look of excitement on their faces as me. I truly was like a child in this world. And it was wonderful.

Michael smiled at my happiness. "So, what's first?" He asked.

I stopped to think. "Um..."

I tried to recall one of the games they showed on the TV that morning. I snapped my fingers as my brain worked, as if that would truly make a difference.

"The fish!" I screamed. "The fish game! We- the fish!"

He gave me a weird look. So did some other people that were around.

He looked confused.

"The fish!" I emphasized once again.

"Yeah, I heard you but- oh!" He said, as a lightbulb appeared over his head. "That goldfish game?"

"Yes! I have to win all the fish and put them back in the water!" I urged.

He raised a brow. "They're just goldfish."

"Goldfish that need my help!" I said. "Now come on!"

I grabbed his wrist and frantically dragged him around the carnival looking for this fish game.

I spotted a huge fish sign and I knew I'd found the spot.

"Step right up and take your best shot at winning one of these good ol' fishies here!" The man said.

"I want to try!" I said, waving my hand in the air frantically.

He smiled. "Well come on over!"

I dragged Michael the few more feet to this man's fish game.

"You get three balls. If one of 'em lands in a bowl, you get to keep the little guy."

I nodded. "Oh, I'll be getting all of those little guys."

He chuckled. "I like the ambition." He said. He handed me three white balls and stepped to the side.

I drew in a breath. "Okay..." I whispered. "I got this. Do it for the fish."

I closed one eye and aimed at one of the fish bowls. I tossed the ball at the fish bowl holding my breath and hoping for the best. I missed the first shot.

"Oh! So close! You get two more tries. You got it, Miss!"

The second time, I kept both eyes open. I aligned my arm with the same fish bowl, and tossed the ball as smoothly as I could. It bounced off of the side that time.

"Even closer! Last shot!" The man said.

I started to feel as if he were mocking me.

I ignored his encouragements and focused on nailing that last shot.

"Don't just toss it. Follow through with your wrist. It'll have a better chance." Michael said.

I broke my focus and glanced at him. "Got it." I said.

I took Michael's advice and followed through the throw with my wrist. It was my closest attempt, but it still managed to rattle out.

"Aw man! That was a killer throw! Maybe next time." The man said. "By the way, that'll be three dollars."

Michael paid the man and we got out of the way of the others.

I sighed, feeling very disappointed. All I wanted to do was save those fish.

I glanced back at the fish swimming endlessly around the bowl and gave them a silent apology.

"Are you real down about that fish game?" Michael asked.

I nodded. "Yes, I am. I was supposed to save those fish!" I said, almost on the brink of tears.

"Don't be so hard on yourself. For one, it's just a game, and two, the carnival rigs their games anyway. If they're harder to win, the most tries it takes, which makes more money in their pockets."

I furrowed my brows. "That's not fair." I said.

He shrugged. "I know it's not. That's why I don't play the games here often. I just get on the rides."

"Rides? What kind of rides?" I asked.

He smiled at me. "You want me to show you?" He asked.

I nodded. "Yeah, forget these stupid games. I want to get on some rides!"

He grabbed my hand. "You're in for a hell of a thrill!"
