Day Twenty-Six~Jewel's POV:
I stared into the distance at Michael's car until he was fully out of sight.
Olivia rested her hand in my shoulder. "You okay?" She asked.
I turned to face her. Her expression was etched with concern.
I nodded slowly. "Yeah, I'm okay." I whispered.
She rubbed my shoulder. "I know you're not, Jewel." She said. "Let's just go inside. We can talk if you want to."
I followed her into the building and got into a small space that was marked as an "elevator."
We started ascending up the elevator and the numbers on a screen increased as we went higher.
This was a cool gadget.
We got off on the sixth floor and walked through the long hallway. She unlocked the door marked "64."
Her apartment was nice. She showed me to my room. It was a small, but cozy looking room.
It was nice in there. Too bad I wouldn't be able to stay for longer than five days.
I sat on my bed and stared down at my swinging feet. Olivia came and sat down next to me.
We sat silently for a while. I didn't have anything to say.
Thankfully, she spoke first.
"Why did you play that kind of prank?" She asked.
She would most likely be the one to believe me, but I didn't want to risk it. I'd already taken too many risks.
"I-Im not sure." I said. "There must be something wrong with me."
She shook her head. "I don't think there's anything wrong with you. I think you just needed some help."
Yes, I do! But not the kind of help you're thinking of...
I sighed. "Yes, I did."
"You don't have to be afraid to ask." She said.
"I know that now."
"Although, being a mermaid sounds really cool, it's just extremely far fetched." She said.
I nodded. "I don't even know what I was thinking."
Continuously denying myself was starting to wear one me, but I didn't care. I found that without Michael, I didn't care about much at all.
What was he doing without me?
Of course he was fine. He lived his entire life without me. I was only around him for a month. He didn't need me.
I needed him.

Michael's POV:
"Thanks for taking me out, baby." Jessie said as we stepped into my house.
I smiled at her and kissed her on the lips. "Of course." I said. "I missed this."
She smiled. "Really? I never would've thought you did since you had Jewel." She said with emphasis on her name.
I paused midway through locking the door. The sound of her name still made me excited. But the excitement didn't last long. It slowly melted into sadness, and slight regret.
I turned the lock the rest of the way. "Right..." I said.
Jessie started to look around room. She even peeked up the stairs. "Where is she?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
I gulped. "She's not here." I said quietly,
She raised a brow. "Oh really? So you're cheating on her?"
I wasn't, but I felt like I was.
"No. We weren't together."
"So she was just to fill the gap that I left?" She asked.
My chest tightened. That wasn't even close to the truth. I wanted to, and honestly still did want to be with her. She had absolutely no "gap filling" purposes.
In fact, Jewel would do more than just fill the gap. She'd overflow it.
I had to stop thinking this way. She manipulated, and scammed her way into my heart. She was gone, and that was over.
"If that's what you want to call it." I finally answered.
She giggled as she came to me and wrapped her arms around me. "Well, you're back where you belong. With me." She said.
I forced a smile. "I wouldn't rather be anywhere else."
Yes you would. You'd rather have Jewel in your arms. You'd rather run your fingers through her soft curls. As much as you want to hate her, you can't. You love that girl.
I sighed and backed away from Jessie.
She gave me a worried look. "Is everything all right?" She asked.
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine." I lied. "I uh- I actually have to make a call."
She gave me a suspicious look. "Okay... I'll be waiting right here."
I went into the kitchen and pulled out my phone. I pulled up jewel's number on the screen.
My thumb only hovered over the dial button. I fought within myself. The decision to call her felt like a bad one.
So I didn't.
I shoved my phone back in my pocket and came back into the living room where Jessie stood, waiting for me.
"That was fast." She said.
I shrugged. "They didn't answer."
She walked up to me and grabbed the collar of my shirt. "You can call them again later." She said. "You'll be busy anyway."
She brought her lips to mine and I instantly melted into them. I never forgot how much I loved them.
They were still nothing compared to Jewel's.
Jewel's POV:
I stared at Michael's number on my screen. I wanted to call him, but my body wouldn't move.
Especially my thumb.
I wanted him to call me.
He could've been busy.
Busy with Jessie I'd assume.
I turned off my phone and threw it on the bed with a loud groan. My own inner tournament had already killed me on the inside. I was a dead woman walking.
Olivia knocked on the door.
I sighed. "It's open."
She came into the room with same weary expression as earlier. "Hey." She said.
"Hi." I responded quietly.
She came over to me and grabbed both of my hands. "Listen, I know this is tough for you, but that doesn't mean you should be sad all the time."
My eyes dropped to my floor. "Right." I said, curtly.
"It's late right now, but tomorrow you aren't going to lay around and be sad all day. Let go out to eat and maybe do something fun." She said.
I nodded. "Okay." I replied plainly.
"Lighten up a little! As long as you're with me, I don't want to see you do anything other than smile."
I forced a small smile for her. It was the fakest smile I'd ever done.
She gave me a small smile too and caressed my cheek. "It'll do for now. I want to see real happiness next time." She said.
As if that would ever happen again.
