Day Four~

Jewel's POV:

"Happy birthday to you!" Michael and Eric sang.

I smiled at the both of them. "Thank you."  I said. "I've heard that song before."

"It a pretty common song." Eric said.

"You better blow out your candles before wax gets all over your cake." Michael said.

I learned that cake is a food that smells really good when cooking in the oven. I was learning so much.

I looked at my candles. They looked just like the picture in my trove.

I took a deep breath, preparing to blow out my candles.

"Wait! Make a wish." Michael said.

"Okay. I wish-"

"No no, not out loud. If you tell someone your wish it won't come true." He said.

"Oh. I get it." I said.

I closed my eyes.

I wish for Michael to fall in love with me.

I blew out the candles and opened my eyes. To my surprise, there was still one lit candle.

I blew it again. It still didn't go out. I took a huge breath and blew with all my human lung capacity.

It went out. Finally.

Until it relit once again.

"What the hell?" I complained.

Eric laughed. "Trick candle." He said with a wink. He blew at it and it went out for good.

"So how old are you today?" Eric asked.

"Twenty-four." I answered. "How about you guys?"

Michael chuckled. "It isn't either of our birthdays, but we're twenty-six." He said as he handed me a large, metal, sharp thing.

"You want to cut the cake?" He asked. I nodded and took it in my hand.

"What's this thing?" I asked, as I began trying to slice the cake.

"It's a knife." He said. "Flip it the other way. You cut with the sharp side, not the flat side."

I flipped it over on the sharp side and the cake sliced in half easily. He helped me put my slice onto a plate.

He gave me a spoon to eat it with. Once I put the cake in my mouth, I instantly knew it was the most delicious thing this world had to offer. It was better than eggs, bread and ketchup.

"Mm!" I said. "This is delicious!"

"Thank you." Eric said. "That's my grandma's recipe."

I ate the entire slice under a minute and got myself another. I ended up eating most of it.

"I almost forgot." Michael started. "I told you I would get you a birthday gift, and I wasn't lying. Stay here."

He left the kitchen and hurried up the stairs.

I turned to Eric. "What did he get me?" I asked.

"I can't tell you." He said with a laugh.

Michael came back into the kitchen with a small box.

"Whats inside?" I asked.

He handed it to me. "Open it to find out."

I opened the lid of the box. Inside was a small chain with the letter J hanging from it.

"Aw, Michael!" I said. "I love it!"

"You want to try it on?" He asked.

I nodded with a huge smile.

He took the necklace out of the box and walked around me so he was facing my back. I lifted my hair out of his way.

"Take that one off so I can put this one on." He said.

If I took it off, my tail would reform.

My body stiffened. "I can't." I said.

"I can take it off for you." He said. He began teaching for the clasp of the necklace.

I moved to avoid his hands. "I-I don't want to take it off." I said.

He gave me a confused look. "It'll only be for a second."

"Just put that one on over this one." I said.

Michael glanced at Eric. He just gave him a small shrug.

"Alright." Michael agreed. He draped the chain around my neck and secured it.

I looked down at my chest where my charms hung. The J hung above the sparkly jewel.

27.

"They actually look nice together." Michael said as he looked at the necklaces.

"I won't even question that necklace anymore. That number keeps counting down everyday." He said.

I looked away from him. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Michael sighed. "I guess I'll never know."

I had to change the subject. "Thanks for the best birthday, guys." I said with a smile.

I pulled Michael into a hug. He wrapped his arms around me in return. "No problem."

Eric made an "ooo" sound, and Michael shushed him.

I didn't really care what that was about. I could only think about the feeling of him in my arms, and me in his.

Assan's POV:

My daughter had been missing for three days. My anger at her subsided and turned into worry.

Even when we argued and she would swim off, she'd always come back. I worried this time she wouldn't.

What if she got caught in a current and was stuck in a whirlpool? My sweet Jewel would be lost forever.

"Don't worry, Assan. I'll send all ten of my guardsmen to find her." Triton said.

"Please do." I said. "Please have them check every depth on this ocean. Even the surface."

He nodded. "I will."

"Dad!"

Triton and I turned around to see Aaron swimming toward us. "Yes, son?"

"Let me go with the guardsmen. I want to find my bride." He said.

Triton hesitated. "That could be dangerous, Aaron."

"I don't care. I want to find her!"

He sighed. "Alright, then. Go."

Aaron thanked his father before swimming away.

Part of me knew that Jewel didn't want to be found, but I didn't understand why.

Jewel was my youngest daughter, and she also my dearest. I loved all of my daughters, but there was something special about my little Jewel.

She was always a hard one to crack. She was a stubborn and determined young lady who went after she wanted, and condemned anything she did not desire.

To my dismay, she did not desire Aaron.

When choosing her husband, I made sure to choose the best one for her. Although I'm not surprised by it, I still can't believe she repaid me like this!

I just wanted my sweet Jewel back.
