"Don't you think it's beautiful" my mum asked, I couldn't think, my tummy was doing a somersault and I felt like my insides were closing in and I was feeling like I was carrying a turbulent river in my stomach. I just wanted to puke and go to bed, but I didn't have that luxury.
I was finally resuming at my new school, a boarding school, I was so scared because I was a day student for the past 3 years and I was already used to the comfort of familiarity, my neighbours were my classmates and seniors, we often strolled back home together and bought snacks along the way,we made jokes at the okpa woman, insulted the boys at the garage when they made their crude jokes and it was like a family bond where everyone was like an elder brother or sister who only wanted what was best for me.
But now I was going to a boarding school in an entirely different state, all because my dad thinks I'm immature, of course I'm immature, I'm FOURTEEN what does a girl my age know about maturity. That was a joke though, I felt like I was the most mature among my friends because I don't go around doing all the childish things they do like kissing boys, sneaking out to meet boys .
I was as matured as they get. But my dad didn't seem to think that and my mum too,so they decided to send me to a school their friend told them about in Jos ,Nigeria .
I left Abuja to come to this low budget, low class place and why is it so cold,I felt like I was going to freeze and I didn't even bring any jackets.
We finally reached the office where I'd register and get my uniform and ID card ,the teacher smiled warmly when she saw me, after the small talk with my mum ,she directed me to where I would get my uniforms.
My mum was so excited I didn't know why, she collected the navy blue skirt, blue beret , checked gowns sweaters and they explained which was which.
Apparently the check was the compound wear, the navy blue and white was the school uniform and chapel wear was a white gown with beret. They all looked absolutely horrendous and to hide my displeasure I kept on saying thank you.
What's your name she asked, Jessica Adams ma, wonderful she replied and called in a man to print my name on the clothes. I was pleased with how organised and effective they were to be honest and so was my mum. After all was done, it was finally time for me to go into the hostel and my tummy started its somersaults again.
My mum was suddenly emotional and hugging me and crying, telling me all the usual stuff, unsure of what to do i told her to stop embarrassing me, she laughed and I told her to send my regards to my dad and brother.
I was directed to a large gate and told that the girls hostel was beyond it.I stood in front of it unsure of what to do until I finally picked up the courage and my bags and walked in.
