Looking around the class, I observed some of the most beautiful girls, they all seemed to do things with a graceful flair, even talking or gesticulating was done beautifully, I watched them go about their activities and I was honestly intrigued. The boys were just beautiful, at least some of them were, they chattered and argued within themselves unaware of their surroundings and I thought it was the most idyllic scene ever.
A teacher eventually entered the class and asked us all to go outside the class and wait in a lobby, I went behind Sharon and stood with her while the teacher explained that he was going to divide us into our classes.
We were all given a form to fill, it contained the subjects that were core and those that weren't, it also showed we had to choose a trade course, what will you choose I asked Sharon, I think I'll go for tie and dye, it seems easy enough, I didn't think tie and dye was easy and I certainly didn't want to go for the electrical installation course or even animal husbandry, I decided to go with catering.
After we submitted the forms, the teacher started calling out names and telling them where to go,I sincerely hoped that they'd call me before Sharon ,I didn't want to be left standing alone. I had no such luck and my name was among the last to be called , when I entered the class I was shown to my seat and I realised I was to sit in front of baldy and behind one of the beautiful boys I noticed before.
I clutched my gown and walked to my sit,I sat down and arranged my bag by my side.
When the teacher was done, he announced that he was our form teacher and these would be our permanent seats. He didn't want anybody ruining the seating arrangements, finally he asked new students to stand up and introduce themselves.
When it was finally my turn, I was a bit fidgety but I stood up and said my name,he asked where i came from so I said I'm a plateau girl but I was born in Abuja and lived there all my life,he welcomed me and asked if the cold was to my liking, I smiled and said it's alright, he then went ahead to ask the others the same questions.
When I sat down the boy in front of me turned and said Abuja babe!, what? Abuja babe na, you're an Abuja babe. I didn't like how that sounded but I kept quiet.
As soon as the teacher left, the class began its noise making again and the boys all stood up and changed their seats. I saw that the person beside me was a girl so I said hello to her ,she smiled and said her name was Tola,I told her that was cool, she mentioned being among those that helped me make my bed the day before, oh my goodness I really have the worst memory with faces, sorry I didn't remember your name or face, it's okay she said and she put her head on the locker,I guess to sleep.
I was glad it was a single locker and I didn't have to share with anybody at least I could have my privacy. I felt somebody yanking on my hair, ouch what's that I said ,and I turned to see it was baldy, hey baldy I said, are you trying to make me bald like you because you're jealous of my hair, he smiled and said your mane you mean.
Do I look like a lion? You certainly act like one he giggled quietly, yeah well I'd rip you to pieces and eat you for dinner. At least I'd go down the belly of a goddess he said and winked. I love your hair though, can I touch it?
No I said, wouldn't want you ruining my pretty mane. Okay lion, he replied can't you say lioness at least she's female, No dear he said, I choose the nicknames.
