Everything Has Changed

Chapter 9 The News

Barry and Iris called the team to the lab the next day. As they sat in the cortex, they wondered why Barry and Iris couldn't seem to calm down.

"What is going on with you two?" Joe asked. Cecile could feel the emotions coming off Barry and Iris. A look of joy appeared on her face but she didn't say anything because she didn't want to spoil the surprise.

"You wanna tell them or should I?" Barry asked.

"You go. I was the one that revealed the ring to the team last time, it's your turn for this" Iris said.

"You guys ready?" Barry asked with a smile on his face.

"Yes Barry, you're killing us over here. Tell us" Cisco said, smiling a little.

"Iris is pregnant" Barry smiled. The team looked at Barry and Iris before cheering with excitement. They all then came over and gave Iris and Barry their own individual congratulations.

"Like I said before, you two bring me nothing but joy. I'm so happy for you two" Joe smiled, getting emotional.

"Aww dad don't cry. You're making us cry too" Iris said as she and Barry got emotional too. They both then hugged Joe.

"You guys are gonna be the best parents ever! Again" Cecile said with a smile.

"Thanks Cecile" Barry smiled.

"I say that this calls for some cigars" Cisco said. Barry sped out of the cortex and came back with some cigars. Barry's lightning has now changed back to yellow.

"You-you're lightning. It's back to its normal colour" Caitlin said in shock. The team cheered even more. They all then celebrated with some cigars and also some dancing.

A FEW DAYS LATER

"Ok, it's gonna be a little cold to the touch" Caitlin said, applying the ultrasound gel to Iris's stomach. Iris nodded. The team all stood in the med bay with Barry sitting by Iris's side. Caitlin then put the ultrasound transducer onto Iris's stomach where the gel was and looked at the ultrasound screen.

"Well, it's definitely a girl. We know that part" Caitlin said as she then got the dark matter scanner.

"And she is showing signs of the speed force in her system. Another thing we already knew" Caitlin said. Iris looked at Barry and Barry looked at Iris and they both smiled at each other.

"Ok, it looks like Nora is in good health" Caitlin said as she then turned the ultrasound off and grabbed a towel for Iris to use to wipe the gel off her stomach.

"This whole thing, I cannot!" Cisco said in an excited tone. Barry and Iris smiled.

"Do we think the speed force in Nora's system will affect Iris during the pregnancy? I'm only asking because when I was pregnant with Jenna, I suddenly got these mind reading powers" Cecile said.

"It shouldn't do. But, we'll never know. It might affect Iris. It might not" Caitlin said with a little bit of a shrug.

"Well, I'm kinda thirsty. How about we go to Jitters" Iris said.

"Good idea" Barry said with a smile. The team each grabbed their things and left the lab to go to Jitters.

After arriving at Jitters, they each ordered their preferred drinks and then sat down. Their drinks were brought over about ten minutes later. They talked for a while about things like what the week was going to look like for them and if they needed to be ready in case a big bad decided to show up. Even Reverse Flash and Mark Mardon for that matter.

Things suddenly got worse when two robbers walked into Jitters with power dampening devices. Barry, who didn't notice that his powers were negated by the devices yet, tried to use his powers to stop them but they instead stopped him. With a bullet to the shoulder. Everyone screamed at the sudden shot. Barry collapsed onto his knees and then onto his back.

"BARRY!" Iris shrieked in fear and horror.

"Everyone in this building. What you see in my hands and my companion's hands are power dampening devices. So, if anyone with powers is in here, let's just say that you won't be getting away any time soon" One of the robbers said. The other robber then marched over to the cash register and ordered the barista to empty the cash from the register into the black duffle bag he had. The barista did as she was told. The robber that had told everyone about the devices, aimed his gun at multiple people while saying that they would end up like Barry if they tried to escape.

"Ugh! It hurts" Barry said, holding his shoulder tightly. Julian took off his jumper and told Barry to hold it on the bullet wound. Even though he was applying pressure to the wound, he was already feeling light-headed. Iris was the one trying to keep Barry awake.

Once the barista had finished emptying the cash register, the robbers turned their attention to Barry and his team.

"Well, you've got some fine looking ladies buddy" One of the robbers said to Barry as both the robbers looked at Caitlin, Iris, Kamilla and Allegra.

"Keep them out of t-t-this. Just t-t-take the money and leave" Barry stammered, getting more light-headed.

"You don't look so good, bud. How about we make him feel a bit better" One of the robbers said. The other robber then shot Barry again. This time in the abdomen. Barry yelped in pain. Everyone screamed again.

"NO!" Iris screamed.

The robbers then rushed out of Jitters. The members of team flash that had powers, got their powers back. Barry soon passed out from his injuries while trying to say something to Iris.

To the team, the day could've been fun and exciting but instead turned to fear and horror. The team got back to Star Labs and brought Barry into the med bay where he then had emergency surgery that was performed by Julian and Caitlin. The rest of the team waited in the cortex, hoping for good news.

After what seemed like forever, Julian and Cisco came out of the med bay.

"How is he?" Iris asked, looking at them.

"The bullets have been removed and the wounds have been fixed. But because of the anesthesia, he's still unconscious. Best we can tell, he'll wake up within the next three hours" Julian said. Iris then walked into the med bay while the rest of team flash stayed in the cortex. Wondering what they were going to do since they weren't just going to let those robbers get away with what was attempted murder.
