Eighteen. I am now an adult. If I went to Europe I could do pretty much anything. I quickly get dressed before grabbing the gift my Ma said was under her bed and heading to the hospital.

I woke up early today, deliberately so I could be with the one person I have left on my Birthday, well before school. Plus I can't say I ever have woken up first on my Birthday and it not being my Ma with her excitement. Whether I was woken up with cake, or a princess plastic tiara she always made the day special from start to finish, even after my father died. It didn't take me long to realise that it was the person-my Ma who made it so special, and not the objects.

"Happy Birthday Honey!" My ma yells as I walk into her hospital room. Today she looks more worn out than usual, however I brush this past with the fact that it is seven am in the morning.

"Thank you!" I say giving her a long hug.

"Have you got the gift?" She asks, checking to see if I have it in my hand.

"Yes," I say showing it to her, before slowly unwrapping it, reveling an old style polaroid camera. One which looked almost identical to the one my father would take with us everywhere, saying that 'and good print out is better than digital'.

"Awe thank you Ma, I love it!" I say, kissing her cheek lightly.

"I'm glad you do! There's some other stuff but I will give to you when I'm out of hospital," She giggles.

We spend the rest of the time which I have before school just talking. The nurse comes in immediately knowing that it's my birthday, meaning that my Ma has been telling the staff.

Waving goodbye to my Ma I get into the car which we both share. It is now that I think about Jasper and how he is. Wondering if he remembers and will remember that days I age, and if he also feels the pain I feel by us being apart. I shake my head to get out of those thoughts before driving to school.

"Happy Birthday Georgie!" Tyler's voice calls from across the car park, before he comes running giving me a hug.

"Thank you," I reply, watching Lauren trail behind her boyfriend.

"Happy Birthday," She smiles, to which I give her a hug which she wasn't expecting in response.

The whole day goes by like this. I hear a 'happy birthday' from everyone except the two people I really wanted it from- my dad and Jasper. Obviously it would be impossible for my dad to say it, but Jasper is still on Earth, but just doesn't want to see me.

It was during History where I got the dreaded call from the hospital.

"Hello is this Georgina Woods?" A professional voice says.

"Yes?" I reply slowly.

"Would you be able to come down to the hospital?" She asks, "It's your mother."
